Those laws are for making sure people aren't excluded because of their race/gender/orientation. They really only apply to jobs, colleges, or anything where a person is being hired/chosen over another person -- applying for an apartment, homeowner's association, that sort of thing outside of the workforce. Anti-discrimination laws do not do anything against people who speak out against homosexuals, or who still have deeply ingrained racism. As long as it doesn't devolve into hate speech (inciting violence against individuals), then it's protected by freedom of speech.
