I've been looking for more "intelligent" sports groups to follow. I don't mind finding some of the decent articles from news aggregators, but the homerisms start to get to me when you're reading something written by someone with an obvious bias for their hometown team. It's one of the reasons I hate reading most Edmonton media. They practically fellate the Oilers, no matter how poorly we're doing.
The Phelps are vastly outnumbered by the people using any of the laws/amendments for good. They are a blip in the system who only get media attention because they are the rarity, and therefore make for interesting news. Also, they're batshit insane. And whenever they step out to protest a funeral/event, entire communities seem to step up against them, regardless of their own interests.Yeah Title Nine or something like that. Honestly I'm glad that people do have the right to speak out in general. Sure you have wackos like Phelps but overall I think it's good for the nation. If you cut off Phelps then you have to cut off everyone else.![]()
I would have been interested to see how many people got behind the Phelps movement is they were portrayed positively in the media rather than negatively, though. I'm sure a ton of people are really just "follow-the-leader-maintain-the-status-quo" when it comes to some of these key moral issues like racism/sexism/discrimination-ism, and I do wonder how much power the media holds in swaying opinions.
Also, haha 2-1 Ducks.![]()
