Christians that believe in inerrancy don't have the same problem, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence if a religions self-proclaimed 'divinely inspired' holy book can't keep its accounts straight.
At which point I'd point you back to the old argument that goes a bit like "old books, lotsa people, lotsa translations".
