I'll be the same way as long as my daughters live with me It's the Dad thing to do. Even when they are 40, they'll still be my little girls and I won't let anyone harm them if I can stop it.

Not that Polo would "harm" her, but her Dad doesn't know that.

She's 18. That sounds young, but at that age it's really up to her to do what she feels that she needs to do.

Being that he's a drunk, he's obviously got control issues that stem from his alcoholism. I don't think he's really worried about her getting pregnant. He just seems like the sort of guy who has to assert control at all times. That, and I really wonder if he ever sexually abused her. I'm not trying to be offensive, but given that he's indeed an alcoholic, I have to wonder if his concern comes from that. Abusive individuals often cling to the object of their abuse. They almost can't function without it. It might explain his behavior.

My dad showed my sister's fiance his shotgun, and talked about getting me and him into gun training to carry a weapon. I'm not old enough yet, but I can still get a gun and go to a field for practice.

I don't think she was ever abused by him. However, I know she was sexually abused by a friend of his brother when she was 12.
Then again, some things are never said.

Yeah, but there's a difference between being concerned for your kids and letting them strike out to live their own lives.

I'm sure that when your kids come of age, you won't be obsessively looking over their shoulders to make sure they aren't forming relationships, and you'll accept everything that comes with that. That's the difference between you and that guy.

I gave him my speech about respect.

I still run into her parents on occasion, and we get along just as good as we did back then. From what I hear, she married a dumbass and moved to Indianapolis, and now runs a baby making business from her bedroom.
    I'm gonna record something shortly...

Yeah, dad's with guns...my parents kept the relationship secret until they planned to get married, about 2 years of being in their relationship (damn, my ex and I only kept the secret for about three days. ) and when my dad came to talk to my grandpa about marrying my mom, he says that he just happened to be cleaning his rifle which he used to go and do some hunting.

Of course, my mom always says that my dad was all serious and shit but my dad once told me that he was scared as hell because my grandpa kept holding his rifle while talking to him. He asked me to keep the secret, of course.

Moral of the story. Always threaten your future in-laws with firearms.

    Yeah, I feel ya.

I really do think that their issues go beyond the dad simply being concerned. He's most definitely a control freak, but there's a reason for that that they need to work out.

I wish I could suggest a solution, but there really isn't one, short of her moving out from under her father's watchful eye.
