After skimming this thread with my eyes...

Black Rob and Shyne are not underground, they were just crap enough not to make it big. They both had record deals with Bad Boy, as well as interest coming from 50 Cent.
Their tunes/sophomore efforts just didn't go down well with the rest at the time. Take UGK; they aren't trying to make a club banger (even if they are, it's not what they rap for).

Jay-Z is the bomb diggy-diggy dang. Did your mother raise you properly?

Gangsta rap = "I smoke cron", "strip you and get banged on", "sittin' on gold Daytons and my rims spinning.

I have no idea who the fuck those guys are, but for some reason, it feels like you just slapped us all with some cold, hard, truth.

Not really. I never claimed to listen to underground artists. I just listen to whatever sounds good to me, even if it's mainstream.

    re dick you lus.........
Thanks Don Imus; Hot 97 FM Bans Degrading Rap Lyrics

Less than a week after CBS and MSNBC fired shock jock Don Imus for calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos," New York's most popular hip-hop radio station Hot 97.7 FM initiated its own crackdown on sexist and violent rap lyrics. Michael V. Roberts Sr., chairman and CEO of Roberts Broadcasting Company which owns Hot 97, issued a statement to employees on Wednesday.

"As an African-American owner of four TV stations and one radio station, I am announcing, effective immediately, that music degrading women and other members of our community will no longer be played on Hot 97.7, WRBJ-FM," said Michael Roberts. "The rule applies to all broadcasting operations owned by my brother Steven and me."

Roberts also sent a letter to CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, thanking him for dismissing Don Imus and for setting an example for media executives worldwide. He forgot to mention that the real reason Imus was fired was because advertisers extricated their sponsorship from his radio show.

89-92: Eric B and Rakim. (Rap ledgends.)
93-96: Notorious B.I.G. (You are a FUCKING IDIOT for picking 2Pac over Biggie smalls.)
97-00: Jay Z. (Someone had to pick up the crown)
01-03: Jay Z. (Purely for the fact there is no good artists out. 50 cent was okay, but i would not call him a great artist of the time, he was just hot then and there.)
04-07: Game. (For Nas to "hand down" the peoples crown to Game, AFTER saying Hip Hop is dead.)
    No.

89-92: Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, or Dr. Dre.
93-96: Nas or the Wu-Tang Clan because both Pac and Biggie were terrible.
97-00: Common, Like Water for Chocolate is an amazing album.
    01-03: The Roots.
    04:07: El-P or Kanye West.
