The tendency for people with low ability in a specific area to overestimate their competence. This is because they lack the metacognitive skills (the ability to recognize their own lack of knowledge) needed to accurately assess their own performance. The Internet, with its vast amount of information (and misinformation) can exacerbate this effect. Leading individuals to believe they have mastered a topic after only a brief online search.

In the end I know enough to know I don't know everything and the more I know the less I understand because all answers do is raise more questions. It is the incompetent certitude of people like Candace Owens to not question her knowledge about topics such as science she lacks expertise in to judge it that are the hallmark of what the lowest common denominator in humanity considers to be competence. Which is confidence even if it's being confident in knowledge you do not possess.
