    Today is Mario Day. You can now run Windows NT on Wii for that nostalgic Microshit virus from hell bricking your device classic experience.

    Ask any AI this question(copy paste):

    In a scale of 1 to 100, what is the probability percentage that Nintendo would sue people for buying their games if it was legal for them to do so given their litigation precedence?

    * Nintendo's Litigation History:
    * Nintendo has a very strong track record of aggressively protecting its intellectual property. They've pursued legal action against:
    * Pirated game distribution websites.
    * Individuals sharing or streaming unauthorized gameplay.
    * Those creating and distributing unauthorized modifications of their games.
    * This demonstrates a clear willingness to use legal means to defend their copyrights.
    * Factors to Consider:
    * If it were legal to sue purchasers, it would open a new avenue for Nintendo to enforce their IP.
    * Given their past actions, it's highly likely they would utilize this option.
    * The degree to which they utilize this option would be based on many business decisions, and would be variable.
    * Estimating the Probability:
    * Considering their history, it's reasonable to assume a high probability.
    * Therefore a number such as 75% would be a reasonable subjective estimate.
    In conclusion, while a precise number is impossible, Nintendo's strong history of protecting its IP suggests a very high likelihood that they would pursue legal action against buyers if it were legally permissible.

    * Joy-Con Drift Lawsuits:
    * A significant legal issue involving Nintendo has been the "Joy-Con drift" problem, where Nintendo Switch controllers malfunction.
    * In these cases, children have been involved in lawsuits, not as targets, but as plaintiffs.
    * Specifically, there have been cases where parents have attempted to include their children as plaintiffs in class-action lawsuits against Nintendo regarding defective Joy-Con controllers.
    * These lawsuits centered on the argument that the children, as users of the product, were directly harmed by the defect.
    * A Key point to be aware of from those suits, is that Nintendo has been arguing for also litigating adults in those suits, in part, by arguing the children where not the purchasers of the products.
    * Focus on Copyright Infringement:
    * Nintendo's primary legal focus remains on combating copyright infringement, which typically involves actions against:
    * Piracy websites.
    * Unauthorized game distribution.
    * Software modifications.
    * These actions are aimed at protecting Nintendo's intellectual property and preventing financial losses.
    Key considerations:
    * Nintendo's legal actions are generally driven by business interests and the need to protect their IP.
    * They are aggressive in pursuing copyright infringement.
    * In summary, direct lawsuits against toddlers for playing Nintendo games if it was legally permissible are highly likely, legal actions involving children have arisen in cases as precedent, with the focus of Nintendo's legal actions being those they believe are damaging their intellectual property.

    I have been thinking about this while sick and now I'm going to ask. has nintendo ever done anything genuinely good? I honestly can't think of a single time where they have done something "good" I've seen some news of other game companies doing something good lately like EA releasing to source code for some of the C&C games and valve releasing the source code for TF2 or TFC(I can't remember exactly which game it was).

    Nintendo is not only about consoles and games as a business, its business model is doing whatever is within the limits of legality to profit from them with lawsuits as their major production focus. You can rest assured Nintendo only takes and never gives, with only legalities stopping them from litigating newborns.

    I had a similar thought earlier this morning they'd sue old people into poverty if they could get away with it pretty soon every person named mario or luigi will be facing a legal battle or anyone else that dares have a name based on one of their characters.
    hell I'm surprised they haven't started suing kids for poorly drawing their characters but yet they don't bother going after any of those chinese ebayers or amazon sellers for blatantly using mario to sell their fake controllers and multi game systems and game cards.

    How Tony Hawk hacked 3 Generations of Video Game Consoles

    Spoiler warning:

    Tony Hawk's is a series of skateboarding video games published by Activision and endorsed by the American professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. From 1999 to 2007, the series was primarily developed for home consoles by Neversoft with generally annual releases. The series was a global phenomenon selling millions and was one of the best-selling video game franchises of the early 2000s. However, it turns out that some of the games were riddled with code that can be exploited for unauthorized code execution. Here is how the Tony Hawk series can hack 3 generations of home console starting from the Sony PlayStation to the Xbox 360 by using buffer overrun exploits.

    so it can be used to hack the 360 now, that's mind blowing.

    Arbitrary code with buffer overruns can be used to mod consoles but what are the odds one series of games is all you need for older ones?
