It'll be around for about 18 months according to some estimates. Previously rational people are losing their shit already, and we've only just begun. All I can say is I'm glad I don't have kids and no school to send them to.

Can someone explain how in the actual fuck we’re supposed to be full time homeschooling educators and work full time from home and attempt to, you know, survive in the greatest crisis we’ve seen since WW2?

Also, single moms are more common these days and it's good to have a two parent household. I don't know how single parents can handle this crisis, especially with multiple children. Many are going to have to make a choice between their children and their careers before this is over. To the detriment of their mental health because of what they've been accustomed to. And by that I mean stay at home dads and not just moms, two of them can't work at the same time and be able to educate and raise their kids. Not every job can be done from home and the majority of people don't have that luxury. As for me, I've foreseen the breakdown of society and an eventual pandemic which threatens us with extinction due to overpopulation. One of the main reasons I decided not to have children. I was expecting a major pandemic from India or China specifically, nature has a way of controlling abnormally high population levels. One needn't place the blame for the spread of COVID-19 on more than the sheer number of humans there are. Last thing I'm thinking about is procreating into this overpopulated mess, if the diseases don't return the population numbers back to normal - war, famine and the rest of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse will. Not the world I'd like to drag another human life into without any consent from the ones being born. Things can only get better when they can't possibly get worse, we're reaching that point if we haven't yet arrived.

Single people working shouldn't have kids unless they have substantial support from close family members. You can't rely on strangers at all (child care or whatever) when shit falls apart, although I guess for some people even family can't be relied upon for various reasons, which is sad. Don't have kids if you don't have contingency plans.
Putting off having kids until you're 35+ will make little difference for most people. You can plan for that but people get locked into a cycle of working, getting credit, paying debt...need to keep working because need new car and other shit every 12-24 months...bleh.

Also important to highlight that wages have been stagnating for well over 2 decades, making it a very attractive incentive to have that second source of income. Couple that shakey social safety nets, sometimes that 2nd breadwinner is your safety net.

Of course, I'm applying this logic to the U.S., not sure how much of it does or doesn't apply once you cross the borders.
