Hi guys,
Any good recommendation for a JRPG for preferably the DS/3DS or PSP?

I love playing 2D platformers, but been on the lookout for some new recommendations lately.
Just happened to play Kirby's Adventure (NES) for the first time this week, and I was blown away by it's simplistic gameplay.
I have been avoiding this of it as a cute kiddy game, it turned out more than that, with wonderful details in graphics.
Also, now playing Nightmare in dream land and Amazing mirror for the GBA.
So what else have I been missing out on.
Also played VVVVVV on android, that was another game that blew me away. It does frustrate you at some point, that's when I go to Kirby to calm down, only to revisit it later again.
Android games have interesting platformers too. Anything that i might have overlooked. I am looking for something with quirky gameplay.
Thought I might fire up my old Wii and throw Homebrew on it. Works fine. Grabbed my self a copy of New Super Mario Bros from here (i think) and it's absolutely nothing like I remember.
I'm hoping someone can point out the differences between the PAL (specifically Australia) and, if I'm correct, the NTSC versions?
And on a side question, could anyone recommend some good games? I got all the games that I had previously lost back, such as Mario Kart and what not, and now I'm looking for new ones. I am willing to try anything that catches my fancy, so put down your answers!
Thanks!

Spoiler warning:
The time had finally come to go the PS3 route (I've stayed a generation or two 'behind' for many years, for various reasons) so we grabbed one during Christmas. I've been steadily adding games at a decent clip, even taking the time to play a few!
This is a fairly recent pic, added a few since. I've been making a conscious effort to acquire the 'hits'/beloved series of the era, with other stuff sprinkled in. Based on these titles, you should have a good idea of what we're into. Please, no: Sports of any kind, modern military shooters, racing/driving, or rhythm games.
Thanks!
Alien Isolation - Not a shooter. No Alien franchise game has been this good imo. YOU HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME
Splinter Cell Blacklist (before you say oh no I don't want a shooter it's more about stealth, although you can go nuts shooting everything if you want).
Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag - even if you don't like AC games this is a good pirate game.
Assassin's Creed Rogue - similar to the above but not as big.
Fallout 3 goty.
Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition.
Demon's Souls - The first Souls gameunless you want to count the old From Software PSX game "Shadow Tower"
Dark Souls.
Dark Souls II.
Enslaved Odyssey to the West.
Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen.
Red Dead Redemption goty.
Gran Turismo 6.
Resident Evil Revelations - many people hate on it but I rather enjoyed it once I got accustomed to the way the game works. Raid mode is a little different.
Mafia II.
Edit:
You said no modern military shooters, but I'll mention some shooters anyway...
Killzone 2.
Killzone 3.
CoD World at War (the only good CoD from last gen imo).
Sniper Elite V2.
Sniper Elite III.
Far Cry 3 - If you can, get the Far Cry The Wild Expedition pack (not used). It has Far Cary 2 and also Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon download code (the last game is very good, especially if you like old cheesy 80's sci-fi flicks).

Spoiler warning:
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix
Final Fantas X/X-2 Remaster
Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny
Jake and Daxter Collection
Little Big Planet 1 & 2
I know you said no modern military shooters, you might like Max Payne 3, its a shooter, but not military.
I would like you to please purchase additional copies of Conan, Dark Kingdom and The Darkness 2
Also, here's a random Pastebin of PS3 games that might not suck:
https://pastebin.com/3NvJkA5C
Certainly you won't like everything on such a list, but these sorts of lists are handy to skim.
Here's some less known(?) titles that I think(?) are worth a look:
3D Dot Game Heroes
Alice Madness Returns
Asuras Wrath
El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron
Folklore
No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise
Splatterhouse
I've only played that for like 30 minutes or something, but I totally second this. It's clearly a fantastic game.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here
F.E.A.R.
FPS Horror
All 3 games (though found 3 a bit of a let down but still very good)
Shame the PS3 is missing the unofficial mods for F.E.A.R that the 360 got "F.E.A.R. Files"
Anyway noticed the game was missed from the lists so far
... oh wow so was the Silent Hill games
Though be warned the last Silent Hill PS3 game is very buggy so because of that makes the game kinda hard to play through otherwise was still a great game (That is reportadly buggy on all platforms not just the PS3, so if you do get it make sure to save often, though don't remember if it had an auto save feature or not)
Resident Evil 0, 1, 4 and Code veronica are all on PS3 though I got those on PS4 via PSN so not sure about disc versions of all of those
P.S. I enjoyed the Resident Evil: Revelations games myself
Dead Island 2 as you have the first very fun Zombie killing with nice RPG elements, that one is a direct follow on
Diablo III good old Hack and Slash RPG with lots of dark elements to it
The rest of the Mass Effects is a must and all follow on between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd one via save data (The first one might of been digital only)

Spoiler warning:
PSN versions is an option but still not going to be that cheap in a way better than discs is a disc gets scratched or damaged Sony are not going to replace it but if a PSN game gets corrupt you just re-download it as long as you know your user/pass for PSN that can be used with any PS3 you have your PSN user and Pass setup on so even if your PS3 dies and you get a new one the game can still be replaced at no extra cost (You do not need PS+ for that either)

Yeah I think I got all of them for PS3 via PSN except 0 HD remaster. Originally got RE Rev PS3 digital but I have it physical too now
But I ended up getting Origins (1/0) remaster PS4, also 5 & 6 again too. Might end up getting 4 as well but I've got heaps of versions of that now
Also have RE Rev 2 on PS4 and I'm in the process of trying to "acquire" the digital version for PS3
Not sure why I forgot to mention the PS3 Silent HillsThere's Homecoming, Downpour and Silent Hill collection HD (SH 2&3 remastered) on discs.
Dead Space 1, 2 & 3.
