Default Free McBoot 1.8b on PS2.

First off I apologise if this is the incorrect sub-forum for this question.

So I'm running Free McBoot 1.8b on a slimline PS2 and I'm curious if I'll be able to play copied PS1 games?

If not on this software is it possible at all?

I've searched high and low for a place to get my ps1 mod chipped and I've been told everywhere that "the chips are unavailable and no one does it anymore" so this is a last resort for me.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

    Hello,

Free McBoot does not run or boot PS1 games as that software tricks the PS2 into thinking the PS2 games are movie DVD's.

Secondly, you have 2 options for PS1 games. First, breaker pro discs and the lid sensor trick. (Same idea as swap magic for PS2). Or you can emulate PS1 games on your computer if it is decent enough.

You can get PSX stuff done with FMCB, you just need psxlauncher.elf:
    http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/...s-on-your-ps2/

It's not as full featured as Breaker Pro discs, it's just a simple disc swap app, and it has limitations. But it's free and easy to try.

    Zer0-2k11 is great:

Although honestly I'd troll over Craigslist (and maybe eBay) for a few weeks looking for a pre-modded console. They're not expensive when you actually find them.
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

P.S. both Breaker Pro & PSX Launcher require the lid censors blocked (I installed am external switch myself to the front censor and have the back one perm blocked)

Both have the same limitations as the toc is still read from the first disc inserted

When I say blocked I am saying the little switch is set to on

There are other options for PSone with real hardware like a PSP (softmodded) or a modded Xbox (software mod is enough) via emulation for the Xbox that is much better than 3rd party emulation on the PS2 for PSX software, if you realy wanted you can also hook up an older PC to a TV via composite display and emulate the PSX on a PC with no filters to get the original look and justa get a couple of PSX/PS2 to USB pad converters also known as PS2 to PS3 pad converters

Sorry to be a nuisance guys but I'm really struggling with this.

I have my ps2 set up exactly like this, with the lid censors blocked, but the back up disc does not load.

This is the game I downloaded and I burnt the .cue file onto a Kodak 52x CD-R disc.

Did you force your burning program to burn at the lowest speed? It generally helps to prevent errors in the burning process.

I personally have never used Kodak. I'd go with Memorex, TDK, or Sony for CD's. Sony or TDK for DVD's.

Brand names are just that, you can get good and bad discs labelled with the same brand because they aren't necessarily all made by the same manufacturer.
Some TDK discs are CMC, which is bad.
Some Memorex are CMC, but others can be Ritek which are ok even though they're cheap.

    Spoiler warning:

Uh, I donno if it really makes any difference, but I like lids to be closed when the games run. If you've been running your PS2 open like that example video, you only need to open it for the swap.

None, but helps it with dust issues anyway so best to keep it closed

The Playstation settings may help if they are set to normal disc speed instead of fast, I forget some of the other settings, but keeping most of it to normal tends to help as some games don't like that.

I know Silent Hill works with this method also so very strange that it is not working at all

I used ImgBurn and burnt at 1x speed causing this to pop up in the log.

    W 18:58:37 Write Speed Miscompare! - Wanted: 176 KB/s (1x), Got: 1,764 KB/s (10x)
W 18:58:37 The drive only supports writing these discs at 10x, 16x, 24x.

Urgh, I think my DVD burner has broken anyway......the reason it didn't work on the PS2 is because nothing was on the disc....... Stupid mistake on my behalf but ImgBurn did say the burning was complete.

@Zorlon: You said you knew that Silent Hill works with this method. Is there a list of psxlauncher.elf compatible games available anywhere for future reference?

Not that I am aware of, no.

The ImgBurn errors are normal and don't have any effect to the burning, it just means that it's lowest burn speed is 10x (keep it set to 1x though, I am going to guess that the DVD burning speed would be 2.4x and 10x for CD's), that is fine that is the optimal burning speed for your hardware (Some drives do burn better at the next speed up from the lowest but this is not a common thing at all in general the best results are from the slowest possible burning speed for your hardware)

You may of set it to Test Mode though that does not actually burn anything, instead it goes through the whole process without burning anything.

The Test Mode tick box is just under the destination drop down, just make sure it is not ticked

There's a psx emulator (yeah it sounds stupid but whatever) on the ps2 thats pretty much flawless, called POPstarter. I used it and beat Metal Gear Solid with it. The only problem is when you have to change discs, because is imposible. I had to transfer the save file to my pc and do the "disc swap" in epsxe.

    (Also first post yay)

Yeah, I just needed a new DVD writer. Everything works fine now.

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time out to help me here. Much appreciated.

Hmm..I just downloaded Dino Crisis from here used the exact same burning method and this game doesn't work.

Is there a tip to knowing which games don't work? or is it just trial and error?

What region is Dino Crisis, I am semi sure some versions of that game are copy protected, not 100% just because I have not checked
