Looks like Microsoft backed down on requiring internet, and blocking free usage of used games.

That doesn't mean they won't have a troll firmware update in the future that implements those features after they've sold a bunch of XB1 systems.

Yeah, this was brought up in the E3 discussion thread. The thing that gets me the most about all this is how simple it was for them to remove ALL of these things.... Hell, this is a whole upheaval of their entire structure, and they axe all of it in less than a week? I have to wonder if they were going to do this all along, and just felt like testing the waters with DRM and see how people reacted. And like you say, there's no guarantee they won't turn around and re-implement all this shit in the near future after customers have gotten their grubby little hands on the system.

I just hope the damage has already been done, and anyone who believes M$ is doing this because they "care" about the customer is just an idiot, plain and simple. I hope people aren't quick to forget the "Deal with it" and "don't have internet? Buy a 360 then." quips that they've made recently.

The biggest problem is going to be the millions of parents/grandparents who know nothing of game systems who buy the xbox for the kiddies for Christmas and birthdays.

So in the end they'll probably do ok.

Even with that "back down" I think the PS4 is gonna sell a lot more, how can anyone be so sure that Microsoft is not gonna do something stupid at some point in the future like going back to the main "internet verification" system? that is gonna be "game over" for the ones who has bought the Xbox One. (and the ones who doesn't have an excellent internet connection).

Yeah, they will, and the system won't be a disaster (like the Wii U), the point I was trying to make about people changing their minds though relates to those people who wrote off Xbox for Sony, only to switch back now because they think M$ is their friend.

That's almost certainly what'll happen with causal purchases. Also casuals might have enough knowledge to think "Isn't the Xbox One a ten year old system, you're trying to rip me off"

For sure. Even after their 180 the One is getting hammered on polls like:

You can see stats for the last 24 hours and such there, and three quarters of the interest is still for the PS4. Also, since the 180 the stats for my specific local have actually gotten worse, with the Xbox currently sitting at 9.6%
