People have different interests. Japanese are killing themselves to learn English because what do you know? English is actually the most useful language. If it wasn't for untranslated media specially games and manga I wouldn't bother learning Japanese either.

I was simply using travel to illustrate my point that there is no practical purpose for me to waste my time with language at this point in my life. Also, my post was primarily toward Elin/Gare, whom I've known long enough to understand their linguistic interests, and whom I trust to pick up on sarcasm.

I'm only teasing, of course. If you're interested in languages then go for it. I simply have decided that I am not.

In other news, there is not enough dayquil in the world to make me feel better, and I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow night.

I'm happy there are people who are too lazy / lack the time to learn Japanese. Otherwise I wouldn't have anyone to translate for!

I have a few films downloaded on my PC that happen to be translated by another of our language-philes here.

None from Gare, though. That would need dubbing!

Speaking of Japanese. I have some post-game Ni no Kuni stuff to do. Sitting downstairs though since my coughing was bothering the boy upstairs, which happens to be where my PS3 is.

I'd probably prefer England to Australia, although to me Australia just seems like England but sunnier.

I don't think it's lazyness as much there is no point spending a huge amount of time learning a language which you will you only use for a few games and anime.

If someone wants to learn a language though that's all when and good.

Good grief, aren't we linguistic in the hangout today.

I'm actually considering picking up at least basic lessons in Japanese (be they self-study or actual classes). The language is incredibly interesting. On the other hand, I frankly adore speaking English, and enjoy broadening my horizons in that language subset as well.

Oh well, choices choices. I'll think about it when I'm back home. Bloody jobs.

I think if I were going to learn a new language at this point, it would be Italian. I'd like to be able to go to Venice and actually fully enjoy the experience before it sinks.
