Final Fantasy XIII is an intensely boring, misdesigned, horribly flawed, but beautifully wallpapered corridor-fest. And I'll stop describing it here, because I"m too tired for a five-page essay just now.
No need for an essay it just plain sucks

The corrider-fest is what got me most of all. I couldn't care less about the story partly due to the fact I didn't really pay attention in the first place. Yes the graphics were pretty and I'm not one to say graphics aren't everything as I do enjoy them in games but that's another story. I simply couldn't get into the game at all. Period. Before this I had played FF12 again which is vastly superior and I don't care what other people say it's just fantastic. Also I did Lost Odyssey which had some FF people onboard for that and felt more like an FF game than 13 did.

I would like to finish it at some point, as I managed to recently slog through 8 which I've never really liked just to say I've beaten all the numbered offline games. Which means I would have to try FFX-2 and the sequel to 13 as well I guess.

The crowning moment for me was summoning Shiva for the first time and that was it. The characters were gay even for an FF, even more than Squall (or as I named him - Douche)
I like to branch out and do other things and this game gave no hint of that as far as I played it. It was even more linear than FFX which is saying something. I hated FFX when I first played it too and it wasn't until years later that I tried it again and really enjoyed it. (I love boss battles and making it to the calm lands and creating monsters etc really pushed the game for me) so the next time I play it which I'm sure I will I'll make sure I haven't recenty gone through a couple of rpgs so I won't be as burned out from the genre.

Finally applied new thermal paste. The factory squirt was much too thick and it looks like I dropped 5 degrees while idle; not bad, could have been nothing, but I am happy with it.

    A parallel port.
Back when I found a motherboard (taht I had hoped to use for the GF) I popped a parallel I/O PCI card into the box with it. heh
Just installed it and it had no problem DLing drivers from the interwebs. The disc only had drivers for DOS though Win98 though.

Gonna test it out soon to make sure I can use it in Win7 x64.

Going back into dreamcast feels so good.
Let's hope that guide to fix the reset problem worked.

    Must... resist... urge... to... rant.......

Oh well. Here's my summary. Final Fantasy 1-7: YAY. Final Fantasy 8: Who wrote this storyline? Because I want to slap him. Final Fantasy 9: This is underappreciated. Yay. Final Fantasy 10: Decent, if a little off on occasion. 11 is an MMO, didn't play that. Final Fantasy 12: Neat story CONCEPT. Appalling execution, especially with the most forgettable party members of a Final Fantasy game. Final Fantasy 13: ...yeah, screw this series.

I actually played 13-2 after getting the demo (I'm a fanboy, hush). And found that it solved a lot of issues with the original. Combat system a bit (note, just a bit) more sensible, more exploration, minigames, etc, and actual interactable NPCs.

Yay 13-2. Or so I thought.

Then I got to the ending.

    Here's a spoiler alert'd summary:

    Spoiler warning:
You defeat the final boss, and save the timewaves! New Cocoon is a go, and is awash in light after the darkness is defeated! But wait, what's this? Our heroine suffers a stroke? She faints? The tension builds, what's going to h- TO BE CONTINUED.

    Yeah, fuck you square enix.
