The 320GB SATA HD I wanted to put in the PS3 is a 3.5", not 2.5. BUT, I found some info that says all I need is a SATA cable, and then I can use the drive externally by running the cable out the HD bay on the PS3, and put it in my SATA external enclosure that uses a separate power source.

In the time you have the PS3, how are you planning to fill up that 80GB drive? Seriously, it's not too bad an amount of space to have.

I still need to verify the drive will read discs, and I can't do that until I get a controller. If it does, that's awesome. If it doesn't, then that just means I will absolutely have to upgrade the HD.
