I like the kid, but he's 22 and this is his first job. I had over a half-dozen previous jobs before I was his age. His main problem is he gets distracted by talking to other co-workers. When he should be paying attention and doing his damn job. Now my boss wants me to show him how a "real' worker closes up the station. I don't know how many times I can show him...

I need to get the fuck out of that place.

I sat the old sankyuu (same as current N4) in 2007-ish, and my Japanese then was nowhere near then as good as yours is now. Still got something like 90%. I'd like to say that you could pass N2 in a couple of years, as I really don't think your Japanese will be any worse then than mine was when I passed the nikyuu. But it can be difficult to gauge someone's ability from the odd conversation online and the Japanese LPs they've dabbled in. :'D Still, give it consideration. I don't think it's beyond you at all.

Haha, that is true. I think only the person him/herself really knows what they're capable of. Clearly, we should converse more in Japanese to find out.

Maybe you should tell your boss your sick of showing him, he might understand your frustration, do you get paid for this after work "training"

I dont really speak any Japanese. Various Kanji perplexes me, and I have watched kaiju flicks, in Japanese, for many years....ah well.
I used to do ok in Canada, so long as its close to the Quebec/Hartford dialect, and I do a bit better with Spanish, particular to regions of Mexico.

You flatter me. Although I know, very, very, very little. I have never studied "proper", and the only training I've done is stumbling through Japanese-only games for the past 10+ years.

Some people just don't know the meaning of "work ethic" or "elbow-grease" for that matter. They just want an easy go at life and want to just barely scrape by with minimal effort.

it's not "after work" I just get my schedule changed for a day and get to come in at night to help this kid. I'm just a prep cook, but I'm one of the people who's worked there the longest. Plus they know I'm a hard worker and know how to get the job done properly.

This is likely his last chance to get it right or get the hell out.
