Anyone here listen to Peste Noire? I recently discovered them, and bought the album entitled 'La Sanie des siècles – Panégyrique de la dégénérescence'. Quite a mouthful for someone who doesn't speak French. Anyway, here's the song that got me interested:
It's my favorite song right now. I listen to it all the time. 1:11 and 2:54 are so good.
The lyrics are from a poem written in the 14th or 15th century, which was also made into a ballade in the 15th century, that sounded something like this:
Also very nice, but in a completely different way.![]()

Didn't know they were neo-nazis..? Apparently, they deny it themselves (Wikipedia).
They released a demo entitled 'Aryan Supremacy' that contained, amongst other things, a song praising the concentration camps.
I'd like to see them talk their way out of that.
Loooool.
I generally don't give a shit about wonky lyrics most of the time. Usually comes with the territory of listening to entirely too much black metal.
And now for something completely different...
I really like Power/Symphonic metal. The most recent album I got is 'From Chaos to Eternity' by Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. That said, my favourite band is Blind Guardian, but I've got all their albums...
Many bands sing about Nazis but that don't mean they support it. They use it for shock value.
Slayer did the song Angel of Death, what was that song about? Concentration camps, and the way the Nazi's treated people in the camps. Do they support the Nazi's? Nope. Matter of fact, read the first part of the song.
Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Do you also think every band that sings about Satan, or play black metal, are automatically Satanists?
Many death metal/black metal/thrash metal bands sing about a lot of shit, do they support it? Nope.
Cannibal Corpse did a song called "Stripped, Raped and Strangled" do they support rape and murder? Nope
A lot of it is shock value, a lot of it tells a story. Sure there are legit bands that support the Nazi's, and satanism, but you don't have to agree with their beliefs to enjoy the music.
Remember the song "Night Prowler" by AC/DC? Read the lyrics to that song, and not only that, the song was linked to a murderer, which the band DID NOT support, and did what they could to get their name erased from the situation, just because the guy had a AC/DC baseball hat on.
Judas Priest had the song "Better By You, Better Than Me", the song was linked to a suicide of 1 kid, and severely disfiguring another, because they thought there were subliminal messages in the song.

Many people assume that. Black Sabbath was sued because parents thought their songs contributed to their kids suicide. I get annoyed when metal is blamed for someone's actions. After Columbine, people said that metal music was to blame. metal, rap and video games becomes the scapegoat when bad shit happens. They never blame the person committing the crime.
There's a difference between 'nazis as horror analogues' and the lyrical equivalent of 'fuck yeah, gas them kikes'.
Peste Noire are on the latter side of things. A lot of the french scene is. And they're often tied up with people who don't entirely stop at talking.

Personally I don't see a problem with being a fan of a band, or enjoying their music, you're not necessarily supporting their beliefs. I love black metal, and some of those bands are legit satanists that burn churches and so on. I am not a satanist, I do find some of the lyrics to be quite interesting though, but that's about it.
Its a bit different with the satanists (insofar as any BM bands are actual satanists - the stage posing vastly outnumbers the actual satanists in the scene whereas its rather rare for people to use racism for shock value.). The white supremacists are, to a degree, more organised and tend to kick sale money back into the cause.
You buy a Pagan Front album, you're helping pay for someone to get curbstomped.
I can't comment on the band in question as I've never heard of them, but as far a blanket statement, I'm inclined to agree with Dr Mario.
In terms of musical lyrics, context and inflection are pretty important.
I can't find the Draconian discography (I wouldn't have deleted it), what am I going to cut myself to now?
