But yeah, I was mostly just taking it as an opportunity to point out how incredibly absurd sub purists tend to be. Especially the militant ones who immediately cry "foul" if you don't watch everything subbed. And god help you if you genuinely believe the localized version has better acting or some serious localization win. Which, sometimes, they do. Elin might be surprised to learn that Japan actually got an incomplete version of Chrono Trigger's story. The explanation of how Lavos works was cut in Japan, and only put back in with Cross. Everyone else got it because the development notes were made available to the localization teams. In other words, the plot makes more sense if you aren't playing it in its original language. I like how this works.
One return ticket booked to Newfoundland.

I've seen them, and they're pretty annoying too, the sub purists.

Also with english dubbs a lot of shit might get censored or cut. gurren lagann for example had half a episode replaces with a small recap just because it involved girls in tight swimsuits. and them almost falling off.

I perfer not losing content :X

Quality over Content is what you should look for in Anime.
    Period
    No Exceptions.
If dub is better, watch the dub, and vice versa for the sub of an anime.
I am not a purist, I am a mixed bag of awesomeness made flesh, So I like whichever sounds better and leaves most of the original story intact.

I don't see quality when shit gets cut. Its like watching human centipede censored and cut to be allowed in majority of countries.

Removal of content is really more a symptom of bad localization than showcasing the superiority of subs. TV broadcasts in japan have been known to cut out scenes. But since we're usually more familiar with DVD releases we never really notice when an important scene gets cut for "time" or because it's "a little too bloody for TV".

Besides, in this case it's pretty negligible. That episode was little more than pointless fanservice that did little, if anything, to further the plot. It can effectively be skipped without losing anything. You're basically just deciding between a pointless beach episode or a pointless clip show. Neither option is good.

Still, its happened with other shows when i watched purely dubb only. It sucks when your talking about a show then find out something was cut that you never got to see.

Yeah, I remember reading that actually. There are also interesting cases where both sides are censored, but in different ways. Xenosaga 1's Albedo scenes come to mind. Japanese ones have more gore, more creepy probing, and knives involved, but have a fog of war plastered over some bits that is removed in the Western one.

I never really got the logic behind the knife thing, actually. Oh having him chopping his limbs off is way too creepy and brutal, so let's just have him tear them off with his bare hands. 'cause that's totally normal.

Regarding that thing in Chrono Trigger, I'd be curious if it was something that was left on the cutting room floor due to time and budget constraints ala Final Fantasy VII's international additions, or something that was intentionally left mysterious in the Japanese version. I'd be interested to take a peek into the Japanese DS version sometime and see if they added it in.

    Playing Mario 3 with kiddo.

Ah, memories. Of yesterday. And every time before that when he has been over.

One day he will tire of this game. 'cause after beating it about fifty times in the last two months, I surely am.

You can understand my confusion, seeing as how I'm 100% male.

Because people getting depressed when Yoko was wearing more clothes while wearing a swimsuit was totally important.

(and also wasn't cut in DVD releases).

    But that's beside the point.

Similarly, blowing your head off with a gun? Sickening. Blowing your head off with an energy blast? Totally cool.

But then we got the greatest scene ever because of censorship.

    "Put it back".

I suspect it might have been something that would up on the cutting room floor. It's oddly consistent across the board and was later put back into the series later on as a major plot point in Cross.

Plus when you think about it, it does make more than a little sense in retrospect when you realize that humans suddenly becoming technologically adept and highly skilled in magic always seems to coincide with Lavos starting to wake up. Why else do they evolve technologically at an insane rate between Chrono's time and the Day of Lavos?

Or why Zeal was such a weird mess with its space age tech that suddenly went away once Lavos took a nap.

    And so on.

It's too planned out for it to be a mere coincidence that was just never elaborated on.

I think that X chromosome says otherwise.
