I find that pretty much all of my friends seem to hang out with me because I give them rides places.

If they don't need a ride somewhere, I seem to get relegated to the backburner as "that guy that they know."

It's a bit of a kick in the balls (and believe me, I know a lot about balls) listening to them actually plan stuff with me standing right there, and not invite me to tag along.

But when I try and get something together, they all ditch me.

... friends are great.

When it's like that as they say in Italy:"Kick them in the ass. It means that you should ditch them, ignore them. Don't give them rides at all, if you see the usual friends that'll call you just for the rides, just ingore them calls. Or if you have to answer and they'll ask you for the ride just say that you're busy or something alone the lines.
Trust me, it's better being without them rather that being depressed with them. Get your dignity back.
