So yeah I'm not going to respect a band just because they've been around forever. Helloween were never that good in my books, their first 3 albums were decent I suppose. Lately I've been getting away from metal and more into electronic stuff. Sonata Arctica is blah these days as well but I do think they were actually decent unlike some total trash I used to listen to like Bodom and Soilwork. *puke*

Really? Chameleon and Pink Bubbles Go Ape not ringing any bells?

I've listened to a few of the early and recent albums to completion, I assumed the middle ground was decent .

I've heard individual songs off all their albums, but never heard the entirety of those two.

Any of you fans of All That Remains? They're a damn sick band and have pretty consistently smashed out great albums... Unlike Shadow's Fall who have been a let down every second album.

Helloween haven't been all that good in.. Well ever. They have a cult following now pretty much, and I think once you sink to that low of a fanbase you should quit... It's like the Scorpions, they really pushed themselves too far and started producing sub-par albums.

Ayreon.. Ayreon... aren't they like Folk Metal? Their solos don't even fit their songs, it's their annoying trait that puts me off them.

Interesting folk metal band is Gåte, they're a Norwegian group and they're alright if you don't mind a softer style of Metal.

Ayreon isn't folk metal, not even close. I'd listen to your suggestion but...

I'd stab myself before I listen to anything metalcore.

They're not folk metal?... That song screams folk metal to me.

Gåte aren't metalcore at all... Nowhere near... It's a female vocalist akin to Within Temptation. Hahahaha, and they don't sing in English either.
All That Remains I suppose are metalcore-ish... but -shrug- whatevs.

And what's with everyone raggin' on Alexisonfire? Just because they are post hardcore doesn't mean they're completely unlistenable...

That's the definition of the genre.

Ayreon isn't folk. Progressive metal super band is the best way to classify them. Lots of different styles, lots of different artists. I was talking about Shadows Fall and All That Remains.

Those 2 albums were ok, but not the greatest.

Hate to tell you this, but the Scorpion's last album was one of their best. I have been a loyal fan to both Scorpions and Helloween since I first heard their stuff. I guess being a loyal fan to a band is a bad thing?

Since I haven't listened to the discopgrahy yet, should I avoid those albums ? Apparently . Popularity has nothing to do with skill, or if something is good.

    You ever listen to Skiltron?

Good post-hardcore/emo/screamo exists. You're just not going to find it by listening to scenewhores.

I never said popularity had anything to do with skill. I feel that Helloween is a great band, are they the best? No, not even close, but I enjoy them. Just my personal opinion though.

As for Skiltron, heard the name, but never listened to them. I will check them out when I get a chance.

That song you posted made me think of Europe meeting an... Irish? David Bowie and making a song together.... Interesting stuff.
    I'll stick to Sonata Arctica...

Not familiar with the term, I take it?

A band having a couple million fans doesn't mean the music is good; a group that is relatively unknown or no longer at the top can produce quality albums. I was jabbing at ToBreakOne for making the popularity comment.

Here's a song. The Highland Way makes heavier use of the bagpipes.

All I've heard knocks off melodic death, with crappy vocals and poor song writing. My interest in those genres is zero.

Thanks Shardnax... Learn something new every day. I'd heard of the term but never knew it had it's own special meaning, just thought of it as an all encompassing term of famous groups.

And the quip about the popularity of Helloween was to do with the fact that when Power Metal was all the rage they produced some alright tracks that rode the waves of Power Metal till the end, but now that it's a dying joke of a genre, it's not really worth producing the music that's pretty much the same repeated scales just at a different speed, so they should quit. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Power Metal for all it's face melting glory, but I can accept it's not a genre we're gonna see any big improvements in ever again.
Now the only people dragging the rotting corpse around is Dragonforce, and as much as they are awesome, they should quit while they're ahead...
The reason Power Metal has such a cult following is because it's become boring. And you can make all the jabs at post hardcore and screamo you want, but it won't revive Power Metal, trends in music come and go -shrug- and this one's gone...

I agree that groups can have a billion followers and be terrible(U2 for example), so I'm not saying that it's not possible, I'm just saying when shit's dead, leave it, or try something new, but don't keep producing albums cause you're clinging to your youth and can't accept your career is over.
And if anything some of the most successful groups have little to no fans... Like Passenger(not the In Flames, nu-metal group, the other one), the guy might be an ironic tool of a hipster but his lyrics and musical direction is quality, and yes I know it's not Metal, it's Indie, god forbid, but that guy tours everywhere for his little amount of followers.

-slaps your keyboard out of your hands- I don't care for what you have to say to any of this, cause it's my opinion and we've both made our individual points.. It's Metal Music Discussion not Metal Music Debate... But listen to anything you want, I'm not stopping you with my comments.

I shared my two cents on the subject and am done...

Recommend some metal you think is quality? I'm interested in listening to stuff I haven't heard... Although I've been partial to 70's jazz lately, some sick metal would be awesome as well...

Innovation doesn't mean something is good. Isn't it obvious that what's in or out doesn't matter to me? Hell, I'll still be listening to the same bands, and genres, when I'm 50.
