Also, it is my nephews' birthday today.
Clearly, I have made him pizza, because fuck baking.

I'm not even 18 yet, won't be until September
I'm going to a community college for 2 years, then transferring to a bigger school. It's a really good way to save money, and I got a scholarship that's literally paying for all of the first 2 years, it's just.... everyone's leaving and I'm still here... it's really depressing.
Honestly, I've never liked the way that everyone liked to push the idea that if you don't have a college degree you might as well hang yourself in a crusty ally. I think work ethic and what not amount for much more than just a degree.
Sadly, degrees matter quite a bit these days. Even in jobs where they're not necessary or even directly relevant.
Not really, no.
There are ways around degrees.
Several, in fact.
Degrees are just one route that's become exceptionally popular since extended education became a social norm.
In effect, they make up for your shortcomings in other areas and make you look good on paper.
Lack experience? Have no one to vouch for you? Have a shitty resume?
Get a degree!
Employers do quite frequently look for degrees, but knowing what you're doing, having a solid resume, or being one hell of an interview can all cover for that.
In tech related stuff, quite often. Just because there's so many people out there with experience (and just as many with 'experience' that can't be verified) and that piece of paper is as good an indicator as any.
Connections matter more, but for applications where you don't personally know the guys involved the qualifications matter a lot.
Also, it varies heavily from field to field.
Some actually prefer to hire people who have experience over education. Usually because it's easier to instruct someone on site than to take someone who has a head full of theory but little in the way of practical knowledge and turn them into a functioning employee.
In other cases, it's a highly intellectual field and you usually need to know a shitload of stuff. In those cases, a degree is required for entry period.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy is getting a DVD release this November.
Maybe they'll actually move the story forward in the next season.
I didn't mind the character setup. Is the next season going to take place during the tournament?
