Yes, you need to ignore the Professor, and you need to save curly when she drowns during that one boss fight.

Yeah, the second you didn't ignore Booster, you were boned. You're gonna have to play through the game again (unless it has more than one save slot, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't)

And make sure when you stop off in that room on your way to the basin, that you TAKE HER WITH YOU. If you leave in the room, you're still boned.
