I agree, of course they changed up a bit at times, but yeah they were more Traditional Metal.

Which I suppose does beg the question - what's the first Power Metal album and when was it released?

Most bands were probably exploring sounds, rather than really thinking about the possibility of an entirely new genre.

Malmsteen is definitely not traditional metal, his first full album didn't come out until the 80s though. Riot's second album, Narita, might be, having only heard their later albums I can't say for sure.

Yngwie Malmsteen is supposely under (Neo-Classical Metal) I throw him in the Heavy Metal genre, but it all depends on the album. I am a big Yngwie Malmsteen fan actually, even though he is arrogant as hell, I enjoy his guitar work.

Anyone going to see Judas Priest on this tour? Could possibly be the last time you see them doing big tours. I am hoping to see them in Seattle in October.

I'd have to travel out of state to see any bands, it's not really worth it for me :\. The title track on Narita is the only song I'd really consider power metal, and more towards the middle of the song.

I'm a huge fan of symphonic metal, but I do enjoy more traditional metal too. I used to be a huge fan of Disturbed, but Draiman's grunts eventually got old (along with his lack of range)... now days I generally turn on Five Finger Death Punch when I want that fix.

I'd have to go international to see JP on this tour and as much as I'd like to, being a semi-broke self-employed guy doesn't lend itself to that.

Ouch. And yeah I have no idea where the closest tour stop would be, but I'm guessing it would be over 400 miles away.

*chuckles* I have around 1200 songs on my hard drive... more than 80% are symphonic metal.
The others vary greatly from Rihanna to FFDP

But, anyway... *goes back to his writing playlist*

I don't even know anymore, I was well over 10,000 songs last year. Mostly metal but also easy going stuff like Jack Johnson and rofl stuff like Eliot Smith and Ben Folds Five. As well as various old punk, lots of electronic music and non-english rap. I haven't even listened to so much stuff in so long. :/

    lol

I used to have many more... but when I kept losing -all- of my music from others constantly reformatting the hard drive on my old comp (which was shared) I simply stopped downloading it and just settled for the music I already had in CD format or purchased off of Amazon MP3 in the last few months.

400 miles wouldn't get me out of the country. 9000 would be closer to the mark.
