The reasons nobody considers abandonware a big deal are a) that the copyright holders don't care if people pirate it or b) the chain of people through whom ownership has passed is so convoluted that nobody really knows who holds the rights anymore, as is often the case when a company falls apart. Someone holds that copyright, and will until they die, transfer it, or it expires (which defaults to something like 125 years now).

I actually thought the second one. The light over my head flickers all day long and two outlets on completely different walls will go out randomly. I highly doubt BIOS has ever been touched.
