My sentiments exactly. I was not aware of this fact, nor did I see an obvious "save" feature.
So I'm thinking about starting up an LP thread for "failed games." Games where I just see how far I can get with a game over, or as many continues as they allow me, or something like that.
Toying with doing Batman for the NES next. I made it to the first level of World 3 for Diddy Kong's Quest, and that was... enough for me for one night.

Linux is nice, from what I've used so far -- Ubuntu 11.04 is very visually appealing, that's for sure -- but there's a pretty steep learning curve to trying to figure out how to use everything, especially if you're coming from being a Windows user for 20+ years. It will definitely take a lot of getting used to, and more than a little bit of fiddling. While it might be a great alternative for gaming -- or even a better alternative for gaming -- it's not the end-all-to-be-all for a casual user with limited computer knowledge. I personally find that Windows is a lot more user-friendly than Linux.

I've only noticed it once or twice lately, but it has definitely been having down times. I don't know how long the last one lasted for -- I was watching a movie and kind of... forgot about my laptop for a bit. For me it was only about four minutes, or however long it took me to make this pot of coffee.

Also, installing software via the terminal takes for-fucking-ever.

Then include a couple of more personal gripes, like different touchpad options that I enjoyed on Windows that I haven't been able to get with Linux yet. I like doing my little twirly-finger thing to rapidly scroll up and down pages... I kind of miss it at the moment.

I'm on Linux right now, in case that didn't make any sense. It's damn close to 4:30 in the morning, I've just made a pot of coffee and I'm going to attempt to get some work done... at the very least, set up this Rails install and see if I can't get started on my project today. Because I need to regulate my sleep schedule, and staying up all night and going to bed after the hockey game tonight seemed like a good idea when I started drinking this caffeinated beverage.

... how is "caffeinated" not a word? Fuck you, Firefox.

Fuck, nothing feels better than dealing with terminal commands at 5 in the fucking morning, trying to figure out the differences between a shitload of different versions of the same fucking thing where they change the commands every fucking update.

Well in that case, I hate you all.
... hell, what do I care. The majority of the "downtime" seems to take place at piss early in the morning, when I'm usually (attempting) to sleep. Doesn't bother me at all.

    But then it's happy hour.

    ...

Not really. But I try to sleep early, I swear.

I usually have every intention of going to bed around 11PM every night. But once 10:30 hits, I seem to forget what time it is and start doing something. Next thing I know it's 1AM and I can't for the life of me get to sleep.

5AM and I'm still going... Fuck I hate my life sometimes. But, at the very least, I'm going to get Rails working in Ubuntu. It's a bitch trying to find my way around on this OS, but I think I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Also, this coffee doesn't taste as bad as previous batches have, so that helps... I really need a better coffee maker, this thing has definitely seen better days...

Nice. I don't think I'll be getting into any new OS's anytime soon, much less a new rig.

At any rate, currently grinding soullessly in God Eater Burst; shit does not feel good but hey, need to get it done eventually.

You're one of those guys that need that daily dose of coffee, eh?
