Eh, people have differring preferences for Metal Gear Solid. The games are quite good, and I'll give the first one props for being highly innovative for its day, but I've tried MGS4 some time ago. Dear GOD they talk a lot.

I should say the same thing to you about X-2.
Because you know, DIFFERENT OPINIONS OF WHAT I LIKE.
8, 9, and the remakes of 3 and 4 are my favorite Final Fantasy games, X-2 is below that, I don't care much about the others. At least I'm keeping it fresh and hating on SMT .

I'd be happy to tear BG a new one, but 1) it's not that bad, and I'd feel guilty 2) can't be arsed.

Edit: And obviously, I'm not willing to contribute to the nonsense of this thread.

BG1 functions off of one of the worst systems to ever come off of D&D, and several of the companion characters are bland at best (one of them is a fucking STOCK CHARACTER) and annoying at worst (really, more people bitching about dead families and/or having sticks up their ass about being "good"?). Not to mention the dialogue gets outright BAD at times, and the original version was pretty damn glitchy. The load times and poor optimization don't help. Also, expansion packs. Gee bioware, couldn't you just give us complete games instead of having us shell out $150 for each entry?

And the roleplaying options are incredibly limited. You often find yourself with as few as 2 responses to a phrase, with each one being a complete opposite. Compare to the stuff BIS was releasing at the time (Fallout 1+2 were both out by then, Planescape was well on its way), which included a rather large amount of gray shades to the point where entire quests could be bypassed/simplified with a couple of quickwitted responses. You know, the way it is in actual RPGs.

And the class structure is horribly unbalanced. Some are terribly overpowered, others are nearly impossible to play properly. The developers actually had to alter the game a bit BECAUSE a several of the classes were shit and you had serious limitations on what you could do. They were only somewhat successful. Oh, and don't try to play anything too far off of the standard archetypes, because otherwise the game is going to fall apart really quickly and you may have to start over again because they didn't have the foresight to think that some people might not want to play traditional roles.

The plot itself is very by the numbers. The most cliche of cliches are frequently found along the questlines, and the difficulty curve is horribly wonky. Of course, a decent amount of that is the fact that the game itself is poorly designed.

I figured I did an adequate job of pointing out why it's not all that and a bag of chips.

Of course, if we're going with the traditional overrated response, nothing about it is original. The setting and plot are lifted straight from several books, which were DECADES old by then, and a lot of those were based off of even OLDER legends from CENTURIES ago. The characters are either ripped straight from fantasy settings or are just another assembly line version of that class' stock personality or overplayed RPG personality types (idiot warrior, seedy bard, token womanizer, sole survivor of a disaster, secretly kindhearted bastard). It features a couple cameos that exist for no reason beyond fanservice. And the game engine itself was taken from a rather old tabletop game. And not even a really good iteration of it either.

Essentially they made almost nothing about this game, and it's just a blatant piece of plagarism that gets off on the fact that it's been allowed by the people who hold the rights to the original works.

To me Resident Evil 5 was to hyped up because I would of rather played 4 again with newer graphics for my xbox 360 but oh well.

Ray, I agree with you but you'll have more luck talking to a brick wall.

Overrated game(s) that I've played? Most any game by Blizzard aside of "The Lost Vikings". Those were tricky but also...cool.

For the little time I could play it (my computer wouldn't resist it so I'd have to reboot it within minutes after play), World of Warcraft.

    Click to hear the objection!
