I pay my respects to one of my favorites: Mortal Kombat.
I've loved almost every game in the series, including spinoffs.
I agree. The villain usually ends up more interesting when bad writing is involved. See, the villain is almost always flawed, causing the audience to feel more of a connection, and since Robotnik is more of an important character than Sonic (Sonic being nothing more than a vehicle to bring Robotnik's story full circle), his story ends up better.
It's the same problem with Superman. You know he'll win. You know he'll be the same when it's all over. You know he's immovable and unchanging, and that's what makes him so boring.
Sonic, like Supes, has no real flaws. He's cocky, he's brash, and not the sharpest tack, but those are merely quirks and personality traits that have no real bearing on even his own story. If Sonic had ever faced any real loss (like say, Tails dying), he would have been infinitely more three dimensional, because then he'd have a conflict. Then, he'd have a true reaction, and a true change to his character. When a character has scars, and when a character GROWS, that's a good story. Or at least a better one than Sonic's ever been granted.
Who knows, maybe he'd go Super Sonic 2.
Im going to show my age again, But The dizzy series of games.
An egg wearing boxing gloves, in a platformer based find things and use em game. I still play them quite often to this day. Oh how i would love an update to this series.
At least i have dizzyage to keep me amused.

For me it has to be Doom, especially I-Final doom with Final Doom being the best. It took all the great music from the first two and put it all together into one extremely difficult game
Nintendo's series (Zelda being top)
RPGs
The Elder Scrolls
Fallout
Mass Effect
FPSs
Battlefield
Gears of War
Goldeneye/Perfect Dark
Halo (1,2,Reach)
Grand Theft Auto is probably my favorite series of all time. I just like how much shit you can do, and the games are funny.
Fallout, Thief, and GTA. Pretty solid.
