I think your out of luck I beleive normal saves are needed and it to be the next day when you load in a in-game save this will trigger one of the animals after a few days could even be a full week depending on how things are going between you and the animals, one will be packing there thing away in there house you may even get a leter saying they are moving out, the day after that they should be gone and a new animal moving in filling a new house with just boxes, the day after they will have unpacked
P.S. there are other version of this game for various systems:- N64, GameCube and Wii, N64 version is jap only though, not sure how well the GC and Wii version are emulated but worth a look, I like the GC version the best "shock" not that there is a great diff between all the versions they are all much the same game
