Well, I basically want to watch my anime series in my tv, so I convert the episodes (about 22-23 minutes long) in about 15 minutes each or less. Then use TMPG Dvd Author I think, and after adding everything, it takes about 1 hour to create the VIDEO_TS folders and stuff.

It's not too much trouble, but throwing everything into a dvd and put it in a player would be better.

Yeah it takes ages on my computer too, I eventually just bit the bullet and bought a cheap DivX compatible player/recorder. It's kinda crappy (note to self: never buy another Philips product) but it does the job at least.

Does your DVD player support MPEG files? Not just VCDs, does it have a browser or something that lets you open files on the disk? Because my old one did, and since it only takes around 10-15 minutes to convert an hour long AVI to MPEG on here that's what I used to do. Obviously not the best quality but it served its purpose.

Depends what software you use too. TMPGEnc will take around 2 hours on my computer for a 700MB DIVX/XVID. Other program with lower quality will do it in like 1 hour. Best would be if your DVD supports DIVX/XVID.

Nero usually gives a nice quality for the time it takes. Not the best quality but I'd say one of the best quality for time it takes ratio.
A DiVX player is the way to go though. It's just a thousand times easier. IF you buy one now you can find them pretty cheap ($45 Canadian/$1000 US) with even HDMI output.
