Consider yourself lucky. All my experience with ingame voice chat has been through Source. 
And Goddamn, its horrible. Mic spammers, people playing shitty quality music, people screaming racist shit at other players.... I've long since turned mic audio all the way off, and refuse to turn it back up again. EVER.
