I don't believe that. If you've read my comments regarding the Bible, you'd see that I'm regarding what's written as outdated but for the most part well-meant attempts and relaying moral ideals. It's just skewed by people's perceptions during translations and edits. I wasn't raised to believe that if I did ___ I'd go to Hell. I was raised to believe that if I did ____ I'd be in trouble. Besides, I personally think that God is more like a father. An actual father. He's giving us distance and not taking active roles in our lives because he wants humanity to grow up. He's still there if we falter but we need to come to terms with what our problems are and how to fix them ourselves. I don't remember my priest ever saying things like that, but I did remember this one whole thing about "God is everywhere" and I blurted out "even in naughty places?" and he said yes. I remember that because I thought it was funny/gross that God was in toilets and trashcans.
LOVE organized religions! Lets give us all MORE reasons to fear/mistrust/HATE each other - AWESOME!! JUST what this poor old world NEEDS!!

Tulkas - REMEMBER: God is in your GENITALIA!! MWAAA-HAAAA!!
Same with my Mom. She and Dad had horror stories about the Nuns of that age. Sticking the gum you were chewing onto your face. Smacking you with rulers. Tearing the hems out of your jumper/dress if it wasn't at least a certain length... I actually was taught by a couple nuns who were nuns during that time. Sister Ave and Sister Regina. Both were nice to me (because I was a nice friendly, well behaved young lady) but both were strict in class. Sister Regina was also strict in the hallways and would take drink-containers from students at lockers. A friend had a thermos of coffee.
Yes. This. YES.
1) Religion can be a good thing. It can give you hope during dark times. Problem is, people are easy to whip into zealots over religion... over anything, really.
2) :| Yours too.
I shal skim through this.
1.) Humans will always use any means to convey their ideals, it just so happens the Bible has some things that shouldn't be crossed. (I.E. Ten Commandments.)
2.) I hope no one was raised into "If you do such and such, you're burning forever" kinda of a back lash to a person's personality if you delve into it.
3.)I think I heard something along these lines before.........but I don't feel like saying useless stuff, so I'll keep it to myself.Quote:

4.)When I asked that question, I had a ruler to the hand :wacko:Quote:

1) M'yup.
2) I hope so too. Sadly, there probably are people raised with such beliefs.
3) It's okay. This is just something I've come to a conclusion on my own regarding God and my life and observations. If you don't believe in God or believe that He's present, that's fine. I'm not going to get into an argument over that. The main reason why I believe in God is because it was what I was taught to be true. Sometimes I wonder whether it is true, other times I conclude that God is busy looking over other parts of Creation (ie: other galaxies) or is resting again.
4) No nuns were present.
