Okay. But, you know, a system is as good as the people in it. You can say an educational system is shit, but, in reality, its faults lie within the hands of the students. I mean, if they fail, it's their own fault. They could/should study harder. I prefer to see it that way. Question of responsibility and all.
But, I'm afraid kids don't learn as much about the "outside" world as the could... Maybe they don't care, maybe the system is really faulty. I wouldn't know.
Oh my.
Staged or not, I laughed. Out loud.
and i agree. i should have clarified: education seems to be a pretty big issue with people who are less involved with the education system, but for those still in it, they could care less
however i would also say that for a system to work EVERYONE in it has to work together, meaning the people running it (i.e principals, etc.) have to cooperate with students, and vice versa
the biggest fault i have with the current school system is that it merely teaches everyone the same thing, with very few alternative options, so that it lumps people together as a whole, when in fact (as much as we like to think) not everybody is equal. some people have different needs than others, and in my experience at least, school systems today just arent meeting them
EDIT: im not speaking about the entire education system of the US, just my experiences with it. im sure there are much better places than where im at but still.
Yeah, some parts seemed all too fake.
About the American stereotype, it's silly. Then, a yank in my irc channel found out who Stalin was a few months ago.

Correct. If the teachers aren't doing a good job or aren't motivated enough, the students will certainly not do as good/learn as much. We've all lived it. That old, boring, borderline senile crumpet who sits in front of the class, vomiting his knowledge with the highest disregard concerning how he transmits his knowledge as he waits for his retirement day to come.
Schools are supposed to teach the basics. And, when you say they all teach the same things, it would be sort of a big problem if not all the schools had the same program. Can you imagine being refused, say, a scholarship just because you went to a school they don't deem good enough?the biggest fault i have with the current school system is that it merely teaches everyone the same thing, with very few alternative options, so that it lumps people together as a whole, when in fact (as much as we like to think) not everybody is equal. some people have different needs than others, and in my experience at least, school systems today just arent meeting them
When you mention different needs and different people, I'll assume you don't mean mentally handicapped ones, but rather the differences that pertain to how we learn and remember information, such as being auditive or visual. Let's face it, some people don't do as well with certain subjects. Really, we can't accommodate every single student. Schools do their best, and it's up to the kids to make up for the rest. Of course, some will have an advantage over others, and as much as it sucks, that's life.
I hear ya.EDIT: im not speaking about the entire education system of the US, just my experiences with it. im sure there are much better places than where im at but still.
yea i guess seeing it from that point of view it would make sense....
however i find it extremely frustrating ( as im sure many others have before me) to have to sit through class upon class trying to learn stuff you're never gonna use in life, while at the same wasting time that you cuold be learning stuff that you will use in life.
i guess that was kind of my original point....
