Glad I'm Canadian and our politics are so dull I can't even remember who our Prime Minister is right now.

It's some dude named Stephen Harper.

Yeah, I've never heard of him either (I googled it)

Well, this is not good... and to think that someone actually has considered this to pass it as a law.

Here's a link to why this is the last step in tyranny: http://www.ron-paul-business-directo...o-tyranny.html

Here's the link to the actual executive order: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/relea...0070717-3.html

Basically, the latest executive order, assuming congress doesn't kill it, will allow the Secretary of the Treasury to sieze all your money, deeds, and titles to vehicles if you pose a risk to undermine the war effort. The reason I think that this is absolute tyranny is because everything you own can be taken away from you if you even so much as complain about the war.

What is wrong is that if this is not shot down by congress, it will become law and all future presidents will be able to intimidate the American public into doing what it wants. Democracy as we know it will be dead.
    Democracy never even existed.

    Invasion of privacy?

If it can make it its own business, then you're screwed.

As Melody and others have pointed out, the order itself is vague, and they don't really need any proof to take everything away from you. I try to stay away from politics, but when something as dumb as this is announced, and there is a chance that it will go through, I can't help but point out the obvious dangers this could have in the future. I'd hope that the order, if it did somehow make it through, would never be abused, but let's face facts here: this is the real world and orders like this, even if made in good faith, have the very real possibility of being abused. Agree with me or not, that's your right to your opinion, and personally, I'd like to be able to voice an opinion without worrying if doing so will cause me to lose everything.
That's about how I feel. I don't think that it's very likely that Congress WON'T kill the order, but I find the fact that Bush (and/or his administration) would even try to pull something like this appalling.

Absolutely. As much as I still like to believe that President Bush has good intentions about this country, he never seems to think about the Constitutionality of his actions (or the morality for that matter). I'm not one of those conspiracy theorists that think the Bush administration is some grand scheme to turn the US into a dictatorship... but Bush seems to be just stupid enough to make it one on .
