If you have a flat one in (dead) and keep it turned on for a few hours. Then don't turn it off at the wall, it should keep its memory settings, etc.

I tried, but it doesn't let you fly in depth...just up/down/left/right...not inward and outward.

Oh, I think I know what you mean. Try rotating the dpad around AS IF you were using an analogue. Yeah it takes a while to get used to. Classic game, though.
