    Pelican - Drought

Screw Meshuggah and all the modern crap. Pelican owns all.

Nightwish - While Your Lips Are Still Red

Not really Nightwish though. I think this is just the bassist and keyboardist from Nightwish. A great ballad anyway. I don't know why Nightwish needed a singer if they already have one this good.

Don't look too closely at City of Echoes then. It's a big damn disappointment imo. Probably because I loved the thunderous wall of sound approach, and CoE is a lot more subdued than Australasia and The Fire in our Throats.

Phew, I guess I'm not the only one who dislikes Meshuggah after all.

    Senthil - Septisemesis

If you like funeral doom (or perhaps even harsh noise akin to Stalaggh), look into this album. Fucked-up vocals on par with Khanate, a low dissonant guitar sound and synths that feel like Thergothon run through a nightmare filter. These guys are a lot more aggressive than most doom though, definitely channeling Khanate and Wormphlegm's malevolent atmosphere.

They don't match their predecessors, but it's a solid dose of negativity for those so inclined.
