The freezer part of a fridge goes on defrost often (cause humidity gets in whenever you open the door) and keeps food at around 25 or so (rough guess, -4°C in my book), whereas a chest freezer (ones that open from the top) don't have defrosting capabilities (which negates the jump in temperatures that cause freezer burn) and is kept around -18°C.
