What graphics card to buy
I got a new computer as a gift about 5 months ago. The computer is fine as i was able to say what parts i wanted in it, but there was a limited list to choose from, and there was only 1 graphics card. Seeing as it was a crap one i didnt pick it, but ive been meaning to get around to buying one. Do any of u have any recommendations? Im using a Intel Pentium D CPU and 2gigs of ddr2 ram.

what kind of slots do you have available on your motherboard?

well uhhh i would suggest a pci express one.....
i have the ati radeon x1600xt, and it runs great, have yet to push it hard tho

For a mid range card I'd go with either a 7600GT or a X1600XT. Preferably the X1600XT. For high end, the 8800GTS. Without knowing your PSU, I'd have to recommend NOT getting a 8800GTX or HD2900XT unless you know for sure the PSU can handle it.

Hell yes, 128-bit should be dead. Those cards way under perform by today's standards.

If you can't afford a GTX, get a GTS 640 mb and overclock it. I did, and now I have the same clock speeds as a retail GTX.

But the cards you linked to instead (the 7600 and x1600) are both 128-bit. Among the 128 bit cards, are there any better than a 8600?
Dispite the higher bitrate on the ATI card, all the reviews I've read favor the performance of the 8800.

yes i believe nvidia is still ahead of ATI.... but this is completely irrelevant to me considering im not doing anything that requires a top of the line card anyway, and i kind of doubt you will be either.... save for the exception of dx10 games... which would make the last 4 lines i just wrote kind of pointless

If you ABSOLUTELY must have DX10, and can't afford a 8800, then get an 8600. The 8600 will outperform those other last gen cards, but really just isn't worth the price, and the reviews for them aren't exactly all the rage.

the only mid range graphics card i've ever been in contact with is the GeForce 6200 and it suits me fine i just need to find a mother borad that supports a CPU that can do it at least a little justice. i dontk now if theres a ddesktop model of the ATi Radeon XPress 200 graphics card but i like that one to.
(a Diamon Multimedia Stealth 3d 2000 might be good to/sarcasm)
