Any way to tell apart PSP games?

I know how tell tell games apart by their serial numbers, but what I mean to ask is this: Is there a way at the present moment to tell if a PSP game is a rip or if all the data is there?

Is there a method of telling (outside of actually buying a PSP) or a program that can scan and see?

You could of course compare the size of the ISO with the size of the scene releases who claim to be full games, not rips (read them there .nfos). I'm sure there is a more techy way of doing it, but heck, works for me.

You could compare it's CRC with those of scene releases, and if they match, then you know you have a scene release.

Then find the .nfo file for that scene release and it should tell you if anything has been ripped.

I have always been one to not trust anybody... seriously... I have been owned ten times over by scene releases in the past, from lying to poor quality in order to get it out faster etc... so how can I even trust a scene release?... Also how would I go about obtaining an .nfo and what program should I use to read the thing...

Download it, open your ISO with it and do a Dummy search.


After that I would go to PSP_GAME\SYSDIR and check if the "UPDATE" folder is there and if "BOOT.BIN" is there. If both of those files are present, you have yourself a full ISO. If they aren't, they're bullshitting you and you most likely have a rip.

note: I recommend deleteing the update folder and boot.bin as they are useless space, they don't do anything lol.

Since people *LOVE* ripping tons of shit out though, I can see why you would like to know if your ISO is full.

Well, usually what happens is most PSP scene releases actually ARE full version games/ISOs but what most scene releasers actually do is they remove the update folder, which is pretty useless given you already have the latest/whichever version of Custom Firmware to boot the ISO in the first place and wouldn't require the update, so thats why the remove it as it also saves space. Also, those releases are usually FULL/COMPLETE ISOs because almost nothing was removed from the game

Scene releasers mostly rip completely useless stuff from the PSP ISOs, which you are NEVER going to use, and if its an EU release, they do sometimes remove other language files/music/movies/videos for example spanish, italian, dutch, etc, etc but they do keep the English ones. So this also saves space and you can still say its a FULL GAME In this case, you can always check out the .nfo files to see what was ripped/removed

Also, if you are downloading anything from a trusted website, like a very good closed community like Black Cats, you can be rest assured what you are downloading is genuine stuff and you aren't getting coned

I prefer the update folder to be there, since it came from the factory like that. I am seriously with Haldrie and pushing for 1:1 rips of any game or manual for any system. It's only a few mb's. So yall can't bitch b/c your on highspeed. My ass is on dialup so if I ain't bitchin' then it's settled. Quality > Quantity

Well 1:1 in relevance to USA releases, but for EUR releases if they only take out the extra languages I can deal with it. After all I can't read them and I reside in America anyway.
