    It's already failing.

    This looks promising:
Here's my two cents for anyone with a Westell Versalink 327W: GET RID OF IT! Return it to Verizon for a refund if you can get one, and stop wasting your time. For starters, the 327W cannot handle simple VPN connections, and the occasional outages never stop. Verizon won't give you support for anything but securing a basic connection. Beyond that, you are on your own because Westell tech told me Verizon does not allow them to provide support under the terms of Verizon's contract with Westell (even though Verizon told me to call them). Once you tell a Westell that you are running a Verizon-supplied product, they immediately connect you to a recording that tells you to call Verizon. So I called Westell back and got the tech guy to explain that he was not legally allowed to talk to me. After trying a replacement of the 327W and spending another couple hours on the phone, I returned it for a refund, went back to my original modem, and added the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router, which works great. Verizon is aware of the Versalink 327W's many issues (according to one honest Verizon tech I talked to), and will probably stop sending it out soon. If you have one, GET RID OF IT NOW or you will lose your mind.

Imagine the prospect of buy a whole new computer because the perfectly good one won't connect to a network.

    Pretty stupid, huh?

But, he plays WoW...or he used to. And there's no way in hell I'm letting anyone play anything on mine.

All I can think about is that the setup is just wrong on the computer. Did you try reinstalling Windows? Frankly, I can't see how the whole network could be screwed by one machine. Crossed wires?

I just did a fresh install about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I thought the onboard NIC might be fried, so that's why I installed the new NIC. Crossed wires had "crossed" my mind, but then the Xbox360 wouldn't work either.

I meant "crossed wires" as in some electricity going the wrong way, but that's farfetched. Though, it would screw the router up.

I'm considering taking it to the Pawn Shop and getting about $150-200 towards a new computer.

All I can come up with is his computer is sending out packets that are fucked...somehow.

But I've never heard of anything like that.
