Default What's with all the hate for Vista?

I have had Windows Vista x64 Ultimate for alittle over 2 months now and havn't had any problems > the problems I had with XP MCE 2005....
(other than incompatibility issues with older progies)

The biggest problem I've had so far is simple driver issues...or should I say the "Lack there of" vista x64 drivers for various devices.
The people who r complaining about it probly just aren't getting the windows updates(probably because they are useing a pirated copy of vista...)

So Y does everyone put it down so much?

    My PC is custom built:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Brisbane
    -2.3GHz dual core
2 GB ddr800 sdram (Vista is currently utilizing about 730MB of it during regular use and I have not seen that value exceed 1.5GB...)
    ATI Radeon X700 pci-e16
    2 HDDs
    -60GB IDE
    -250GB SATA 3.0gbps

What sort of hardware do you really have to have Vista screw up on you?
(Other than a PC that doesn't meet or exceed the recomended system requirments)

Moved. Also, I don't really hate Vista. My PC just doesn't have enough ram to run it the way I wanted it to.

I remember i tried to install i think it was wireless internet on mine, would not install it, i just went "Fuck this" and everything is still sitting in the box.
XP was much more user friendly IMO, i let my mums BF play around on the laptop, all i heard was "WHAT THE FUCK I DIDNT WANT TO FUCKING DO THAT" or "WHY THE FUCK WONT YOU FUCK IT CRASHED" And his normal a claim person, with XP his fine, hardly no troubles, id hate to see my nanna use Vista *shrug* and its not like a computer sales person ISNT goin to push that on her.

I've never had a single problem with Vista. Though I think that ram plays a huge part in this. I actually love this OS.

I know you do. I liked it, and I'm sure I would've stuck with it permanently had my PC more ram. But, it doesn't. And really, it doesn't need much more anyway, because I don't have it there for heavy gaming and such.

Bullshit propoganda! Assuming that because something doesn't work right for someone they pirated it, who are you, a Star Force employee?

    1) Requires more RAM then XP. (this can be a problem when running emulators that require a lot of RAM, like SSF, NDS & DC emus)
    2) Has more built-in DRM then XP.
    3) Still not fully compatible with all essential drivers/incompatibility with some older programs & games.
    4) Doesn't really offer anything new that would justify the price of buying it, other than DX 10, and let's face it, most PC games are going to be DX 9 compliant for the next few years because game makers want to sell their games to as many people as they can.

    5) And more than likely M$ still hasn't ironed out enough of the bugs in it to make it as reliable and stable as XP--which is probably the reason why people keep reporting that Vista crashed or had some other serious problem when they tried it. And I don't think most people are using the beta anymore; either they've bought or pirated the full version.

**Oh and Foxboy has nothing to do with StarForce, that I'm sure of

well I thought it was standard today to have at least a gig of ram. my system runs perfectly smooth(I love AERO). ddr800 pc6400 is pretty cheap now... I have 2 gigs for about $120 (4x 512mb dual channel) Wintek AMPO (and thats the really cheap stuff!)

I will admit that I still dual boot with XP just as a fall back and just found out about a bunch of new updates(.net 3.0)

I find Vista to be mothing more than heavy eye candy that needs some ballsy RAM to run. I admit when i first got it on my new laptop I was like "WTF!! I'm gonna kill the fucker that sold me this", but after fiddling with it for about 3 hours I found features had just been moved and named differently and soon was a little more at ease.

I remember when they first started work on this OS they claimed it would be more user friendly, but I disagree. For the simple fact that they totally moved everything around and you had to have vast knowledge to track shit down. I could just imagine all the old people that got used to computers and then finally bought Vista thinking it would be more user friendly and were totally boned over b/c they couldn't do/find shit.

All in all I have the RAM so I'll just wait for a few service packs to come out. I like my winXP MCE 2005 very much.

I used it for a while, then I woke up one morning to find a black screen on both monitors and a solid HDD light. For those that don't know that typically means your hard disk is fubared. After a complete shut down and restart 2x it found my disk again. I reinstalled vista. Vista seeing that my hard disk survived the first attack decided to fuck up my partition tables royally. I mangaed to pull off most of the important data from the internal hard disk to an external hard disk and low level formatted the disk. After that I went back to XP. Nothing wrong with Vista when it works, but after screwing the hard disk 2x, its in the trash.

ya know ALL versions of Windows have had these problems from day one!

I should make this into the: "How bad has Micro$oft screwed you?!" thread...

my real question is: What makes Vista so much worse than XP, ME, 98, etc.
there was the same Problem when XP was released, so whats the big deal...

    It'll definitly get better...

I'm not a big fan of the new bootloader tho...
I think that the boot loader should be something built into the MOBO that tells the computer where to boot an OS from... C:\Windows or \Linux

Easy, you need to invest a good deal of money into the system to run it properly. 120 USD for RAM may not sound like much, but when you throw in the cost of vista (which I recall as being ~140 US), and probably a fancier vid card if you haven't been keeping up on them lately (another 70-80), and suddenly you're paying almost 300 dollars to run a slightly fancier XP that crashes more and that doesn't have anything all that great coming out in the near future for it. Some people (mostly gamers or high level computer users) have this gear, but, in my opinion, the average person doesn't. So they'd have to buy this stuff. It isn't "already there, waiting to be vista'd".

Toss in some pretty shifty "safety features" and suddenly the whole thing just seems kinda lame.

While it will "get better", "new stuff will come out" and "hardware will get more advanced", we aren't there yet. And in the meantime you've got a fancy high priced OS that doesn't add a lot on top of it's predecessor while still taking a crapload more power to run.

You're basically just buying it on potential.

And we all know potential is hardly a selling point for most people.

Vista may very well become the next ME.

Video cards run anywhere from 150-600 depending on what your looking for. Vista isn't bad, and give a few more months it will be a good OS. Hell, give it another year it may take over XP. What people don't realize is that they don't hate vista, they hate microsoft
