It's not exactly a small campus. You can't simply evacuate the whole place. If that were done the shooter could have easily escaped in the confusion. Not to mention that people would be in very large groups during the evacuation. That would make it very easy for two automatic pistols to do a lot of damage.

Wow Thompson could've waited a day or two before he started blaming video games. What a fucking idiot.

Sad news, not much else to say.

Westboro Baptist Church (Yes, the godhatesfags assholes) is planning to protest at the funerals of the victims of the VA Tech shooting.

I want to kill Fred Phelps. Wrap my hands around his fucking neck and squeeze until his head falls off.
As I was walking down the stair,
    I met a man who wasn't there.
    He wasn't there again today.
    I wish, I wish he'd go away.

    Get in line.

The hell does this have to do with their message? At this point they're really just being attention whores. Not that this hasn't been the case for a while...

I'm going to hold off on posting something related to the origional topic, as I'd probably end up making some sort of horribly sick joke. And well... that wouldn't work out too nicely.

I will however say it sucks and the guy was probably screwy in the head.

As far as the Phelps family cult is concerned, anything bad that happens in the US (or in any place they don't like. Which is pretty much everywhere minus the uninhabited parts of the antarctic) is Godly punishment for our sins. This is a bad event, therefore they want to proclaim sin as the cause.

    Fucking arseholes.

I seriously think after columbine and now this, that colleges especially the bigger ones like VT, should have their own SWAT force thats given the permission in these scenarios to use deadly force on the shooter. Especially after hes gotten 30 kills.

Or how about looking into what actually causes tragedies like this maybe?
One thing is to stop the people who does this, another is to prevent it all together from happening in the first place.
There has to be some reason why the US is so prone to tragedies like this compared to other countries.

That would take effort, time and money. Three things the public are notoriously tight with.

Although they are more common in the US, the events are overplayed by the media. But if I had to wager a guess as to the reason, It'd be high availability of firearms added to a somewhat dysfunctional education sytem. But that's just a gut reaction.

Interestingly enough they are saying the gunman was an exchange student from China.

His name is Seung Hui Cho. They said he's a permanent resident of the US.

The US is still not even in the top 20 countries for homicides per capita. We're better off than Russia, Mexico, Poland, (insert all of Africa and South America here) etc...

Whatever bullshit the likes of Jack Thompson and Michael Moore would like to spew as an easy answer to the world's problems, it's not that simple. In China a few years back a man stabbed 15 children and three teachers in a Beijing nursery because of "job fears" - there are psychos everywhere.

That he's an immigrant from South Korea, and wasn't born and raised in the US, puts a very different spin on this that normal. He was a 23 year old resident alien. He came to the US in 1992, and has permanent residence via a greencard and lived with his parents.
Also, they're saying his weapons were a Walther .22-caliber semi-automatic and a 9 mm Glock. O_o I guess he wasn't using them akimbo, then (something I was wondering about ^^; ).
The final count seems to be 31 dead, including the gunman, and 15 wounded.
You know, I'm actually curious why it's significant that this is the worst mass shooting. There have been worse mass murders in the US, just not with guns. At the turn of the centery a farmer went crazy in Bath, Michigan, apparently because of property tax laws causing him to lose his farm, and used dynamite to destroy a new schoolbuilding in town, killing 45 and injuring 58. Most of the victims were elementary school-age children.

Someone on another forum quoted a full article describing the note he left behind (railing against "debauchery", and "rich kids"), and it said that he was on some kind of anti-depressant medication, but they didn't link it.

Yeah thats what the local radio is saying now too. They have released a lot more information now. I heard that he was from China last night on the news. Guess they just made that up.
