Honestly I doubt I'll need an excuse, I'd be surprised if they'll even notice me leaving if I wait until after the first few drinks have been downed. I was more expecting trouble if I wander off before it even starts.

Whatever oppotunity presents itself, then, just grab it. Or you could always get over whatever it is that's disturbing you about them (or vice versa, but that doesn't really apply), and remain there while having a good time, which isn't all that hard to achieve if you really want to.

It's more a clash of beliefs and some bad blood out of the past (divorced family and my dad's side, which'll be in attendance, seldom have anything good to say about my mother). Which aren't things I can completely quash, especially once the drinks are flowing.
