Sorta. However this is MUCH faster

It's basically the same for the Gamecube too, but my Modchip has a built in webserver, so I load up a game, and hold the B button to keep it from booting. Then I put http://192.168.1.32/DVD into IE, and "Download" the game though the browser.

You can use a crossover cable or a router. I get transfer speeds up to 10,000kbs.
