All the weapons have their uses.

The hammer is a good killer for the stronger, slower enemies. It's also a pretty good ranged weapon. Also, the L1+[] attack is great for mowing down huge groups of low level enemies.

The spear acts sort of like an olympus except you can use it on the first play. Pretty good mid range weapon that does some pretty good damage and has some decent attacks.

And the olympus is just a really powerful weapon and great for harvesting red orbs, especially with the urn of gai. Level 2 SoO L1+O in the center of a bunch of enemies, and before you know it you're sitting on a bunch of level 3's. Also, when fully upgraded every attack has a "sword blast" attacked to it, which once you get the hang of it, is pretty good. Especially if you're replaying the higher difficulties since it lets you hit stuff from a distance.

Simply put you can finish the game with only the blades, but the other weapons are pretty useful if you get used to it. It's like the block button. Sure most people probably never touch it, but that doesn't mean it's not good for something.

Yeah, there's a reason for that. You'll find out once you get it to level two, which I don't recommend right away, especially since you're only on hard. The other sub weapon is slightly better though.

He's too much of a wuss for self decapitation and too tall for impalement.

And I really doubt pills would do it. He's canadian after all. We're immune to most forms of medication. Blame the healthcare system for providing ready access to drugs.
