Question Looking to buy a PSP on eBay - What I need to know???

Hi. I might be buying a PSP soon and want to get the lowdown on what exactly I need (besides a big Memory Stick) to do a lot of emulation (including official PS1 but with many different disc image formats) as well as web surfing (you can do that on modern PSP firmwares, right?).

So do I really need to downgrade that far (1.5) in order to enjoy homebrew & emulation, and I can't take advantage of modern amenities that are featured on a more up-to-date PSP firmware?

    Thanks very much...

PS: I'm completely new to this scene and am confused about all these different firmware versions, and why someone would still need to go back to 1.5 or 2.0 if others say you can run homebrew on 3.x stuff.

Newer FW will let you do all you want, emulation, including PSX, and browsing the net.
As for what PSP would you need in order to downgrade it, chack this link, using one method or another, all the PSPs are downgradable now. As you said a big MS is a must.

As you say that newer firmware will let me do all I want, is there a need to downgrade any more? Would it be safe for me to upgrade to the latest firmware once I get the unit?

BTW, can I play any PSP games I got on-line (ISO) on the unit?

What I meant is, whatever your FW is you can downgrade it to 1.5 and then upgrade it any of the custom FW that will let you use homebrew applications, backups gaming and PSX emulation as you wanted to do.
I'm not following the newest news about which FW is dowgradable, that's why I linked you to that thread, so you make sure which one you should buy.

OK. So it looks like whatever model you have, you have to downgrade to v1.50 before upgrading to the custom firmware version of your choice. After that, can you just upgrade straight to a new custom firmware once that's released?

Yeah, you only have to downgrade to 1.5 once.

Thanks. How does one get ISOs to run? Some kind of mounter? Do you need to do different stuff depending on platform, image format, etc?

You wouldn't buy even a refurbished one?

I don't think you'll be "covered" if you brick your PSP. Flashing the Firmware violates your warranty for the PSP and it becomes a $250 paperweight

That includes flashing officially? If so, then Sony shot themselves in the foot.

I think you can claim the power went out and the battery didn't save you during one of the required updates most games have now.

So where's the best place to get a unit (on-line in USA) that's definitely refurbished by Sony (that's if it was refurbished at all) and (still) has a warranty?
