I made this thread somewhat specifically for manga discussions. You all can discuss anime here if you'd like, but that's what the other thread is for. This is more for manga related conversations and so I expect that what's said here, manga wise, is not to be spoken about in the other Naruto Anime only thread.

Now, is it me, or is Shikamaru overated? I mean, I see him now in the latest issue of the manga, and yes he's a great squad leader, yet on his own, he can barely survive fights. And he's what, a Chuunin? Or Jounin? Whatever....

Da dude is a chuunin examinator yknow like in the chuunin exams. And yeah its true that Shikamaru can barely fight but he fights with style though something like "Sorry but you were too dumb for me, and heel im fuckin weak.. You got owned bitch OWNED!!" sumthin lyk that <<;

It's the manga's focus on elite fighters that's skewing perceptions a bit. Shikimaru is a prodigy in tactics and leadership, and he's a skilled fighter in his own right as far as ninja go (at least those around his age/experience). But he isn't focused on it the way most Naruto characters are, nor is he really used to working alone against serious fighters.

Skilled fighter, within a team, yes. Alone? Once, he ran out of chakra, the second major battle he had, he needed to be rescued. I think later on he was rescued again by Asuma. C'mon. The dude only has his shadow techniques to rely on in single battles, and his chakra supply is very, very low. Well, he's definitely the thinking mans fighter, but based on his history in battle on his own, he's a weak fighter.

Lets just see how it works first before making any assumptions that it sucks. I mean guys, the manga just ends with Naruto holding it in his hands and Kakuzu freaking out like a little kitty

Yup...he did Also, I've got a few questions. Was Asuma Shikamaru's father ??? Or was he just his sensei ??? Also, if he was indeed his father then it makes Shikamaru a "Sarutobi" Also, there is a confusion. The third hokage was referred to by Orochimaru as "Sarutobi Sensei" and it was known somewhere in the manga/anime that Asuma is also a "Sarutobi" which is Asuma Sarutobi. Now if Konohamaru is third hokage's grandson, then who was his father ?? and how is Asuma related to the Third Hokage ???

Wasn't his father killed? I thought I saw that in one of the early episodes when Konohamaru was first introduced as the thirds' bratty grandson to Naruto.

Uh, there's really no evidence leading to that assumption. Where exactly in the manga did you read that Asuma's last name is Sarutobi?

Well, I heard it in the Anime when Asuma was standing in front of the third's grave and was thinking of the past or somethin like that

Edit II: So now, is Sarutobi a clan or somethin ??? If its the Last Name (aka Surname) then how is he related to the Third and Konohamaru ???

The Third Hokage (三代目火影, Sandaime Hokage?), his surname being Sarutobi (猿飛), was the father of Asuma Sarutobi and grandfather of Konohamaru.
