    Default Goddamn dreamcast burning problems...

Well gee this is great. For some sort of reason Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain does not work. I burned it using gaycohol 120% (I hate this goddamn program. Always screws me over) twice. Once using a Memorex CD-R at 4x and another time using a Philips CD-R at 4x. The Philips CD-R gives me nothing, the Memorex one actually started the game up but when I tried playing it again, it shows the game to be a music CD. I heard the raw dao method is the best so I stick with that one. I just tried burning Maken X, agreed to the overburn option, results in showing me the CD as a music disc. Goddamn Utopia Boot Disc doesn't load it. Also me and my buddy have problems burning Sword of The Berserk: Gut's Rage. He tried twice both with his Dreamcast being unable to read the disc. I tried once with the Dreamcast logo and the Sega logo starting up followed by a black screen with the Dreamcast returning to its menu.

On another weird note, I found some compilation with 4 shooters on 1 disc and I burned that. Worked perfectly. I try playing it again and it shows me that its a music CD. I try playing it again today and it works perfectly once more. Like wtf...

This is going to sound crazy, but turn your Dreamcast on it's side...with the Power Supply fan down. See if you games play. If so, then PM Zorlon about the laser tweak.

Nope. But the first few games I burned like Soul Calibur work normally. I'm installic DiscJuggler right now and maybe this will sort things out. I've had bad luck with Alcohol in the past. I don't trust that crap...

I have burned 90% of mine with Alcohol and Nero. I can rip with DiscJuggler, but whenever I try to burn with it, I get an error and it closes. I hope it works for you

Well this is most interesting. Dead or Alive 2 burned using DiscJuggler works perfectly. I also tried your bootleg "turn the DC on the side" method once again. Maken X and Sword of The Berserk still do not work but Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain does. I guess Maken and SOTB burned unsuccessfully so I'll pm Zorlon about the laser tweaking and hopefully it's something not too difficult...

I've never done the laser tweak, so I don't have a clue what it consists of...but Zorlon is the man when it comes to this stuff. You'll be in good hands

http://www.geocities.com/zeph340/ <- DC laser tweeking guide not by me but easy enough to do and thats a nice guide for it

a little bit is not a quarter turn it's more like oh it moved less 1mm yeah that much of a little bit

hold the laser firmly aswell while you adjust it so your not pushing it back to the start pos or you will end up disconnecting it... just read the guide through before starting to try that

heh, I dismanteled my dc and tweaked the laser, then I found out that I've been making my isos into music cds instead of image cds with discjuggler lol. Oh another point I thought I'd say in case you run into it in future (not too sure if this goes with alcohol as well) but with discjuggler you may get a message saying this image has errors would you like it fixed, say no as it screws up the image.

GODDAMN DISCJUGGLER! I don't understand it. It burned Dead or Alive 2 and Shenmue fine but it doesn't burn Maken X. I enabled overburning and I increased the maximum amount of minutes to burn on a CD yet this douchebag asks me if I want to overburn. I click yes. Then 15 minutes later it asks me to insert another CD... WTF! Made myself a splendid set of 2 more coasters for today. Looks like I'll be forced to use gaycohol 69% to burn this...

And yea I'm gonna have to end up tweaking the laser. Shenmue froze on a loading screen when I tried leaving the house. This is great... I'm gonna have to watch the 10 minute opening movie once again. It's my lucky day...

It probably doesn't help you one bit, but I want you to know that in the beginning of my Dreamcast ISO "life", I had the same problems you have now. I made more costers than good games, and I was constantly pissed off at the low success rate of the burns. But, as you get more familiar with the idiocyncrasies of the many different DC ISO formats, you'll get better at burning them. Nowdays, I can just look at an ISO and it's format/layout and pretty much tell if it is a good one or not, and what I have to use to burn it

cheat and mount them with Daemon tools and either recreate the CD image in whatever format works best for you or copy on the fly directy to your burner from that drive, I recomend the first method though, on the fly is all good n stuff but is more lickly to mess up while burning.

Nero 5 might be worth a shot specially if you already own it, often comes with burning hardware... just don't use cdi2nrg your beter off mounting a creating an nrg with Nero from the Daemon drive
