    Default PSX Emulation Questions.

Ok, I've been using PSX emulators for quite a while now but I've suddenly ran into a problem.. when playing 2 player games, I cannot get the second controller to work at all, I've tried a few different plugins and nothing. I was pissed off when it happened because my uncle came over from new york a few weeks back and I wanted to play a multiplayer game with him and I couldnt get the darn thing to work What's the best controller plugin for multiplayer?

Also, one more problem.. How do I make a bigger memory card? Is 128kb the only size you can use? I really wanted at least a 512kb, it just seems to be a pain in the butt to switch between cards when you're playing a bunch of different games.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank You.

ePSXe's default works fine but if it isn't working you can always use joytokey on one of the pads and set the 2nd one up in ePSXe to use keys

I have even had 4 pads running at once in ePSXe back when I made my own PSX pad port for my PC (I actually worked with my PSX Multitap)

Joytokey makes your pad presses into keyboard presses

No you can't have bigger memcards, even the actual third party memcards that were bigger used a bank switch to change memcard bank of a standard size memcard, because if it let the whole lot be read at once the PSX could not read em

I never knew that the bigger memory cards had to switch banks. That would be sweet if someone came out with a similar method for the psx emulators, so we could use bigger memcards.. probably not though Am I the only one that thinks it's a bit of a hassle to switch memcards all the time? I'll probably just start making a separate card for each game, I havent tried it yet but I'm thinking it's probably the easiest way.

Now about the second controller not working, I believe the problem is the emulator I'm using (SSSPSX).. I've pretty much tried most of the psx emulators out there including ePSXe, PSXeven, VGS and my personal favorite SSSPSX. It's pretty stable (unlike PSXeven) and I just love the interface.. I've never really had a problem with it until this controller thing popped up and also maybe Legend of Legaia getting stuck at that first battle (is there a way around that for SSSPSX?, I know there is for ePSXe but havent been able to work around it with SSSPSX.)

So you can confirm that multiplayer works fine on ePSXe? Darn, I suppose I'll have to switch, even if it's only for the multiplay games. Do you know what extension ePSXe memcards are? SSSPSX's are .mcr but I havent used another emulator in so long I forgot about the rest, I might have to get a memcard converter if they are different.

One last question.. which ePSXe frontend is best? I've messed around with a few of 'em but never really liked any one in particular.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks.

VGS with 2 pads works fine aswell (recomend you use games.txt for compatability and VGSVideoPatchXP13 for CD-R compatability and other fun little mods)

If you can force filters with your GFX card then you can use VGSVideoPatchXP13 to run VGS in a high res and use stretch then your hardware generated filters with be applied (just make sure you set your hardware so it not using aplication controled settings)

The best front end is by the same dude that makes all the cool plugins, Pete it's called ePSXeCutor

AbAdA, AldosTools has a Memory Card Manager that might be what you're looking for.

I haven't tried it myself, so I can't say much about it, other than it's freeware:
    http://www.aldostools.com/memmanager.html

ePSXe memcard files are also in the .mcr format (you can find them in ePSXe's memcards folder) :
    epsxe000.mcr
    epsxe001.mcr

This may be a stupid question, but what are the advantages that a front-end has over the ePSXe GUI?
I've never used a front-end as the GUI is enough for me.

Sounds good, I'll give VGS another shot. When I did try it out, I didnt know that there was a way to use high res.. I was stuck using 640x480 and I run 1440x900 desktop resolution so it didnt look so sharp. With VGS you dont use plugins, correct? It seems like a solid emulator.. I think it's the way to go, for me at least, as long as I can get it working correctly. Worst comes to worse, I'll have to jump on the bandwagon and use ePSXe

My personal favorite emulator for all systems has to be Kega Fusion 3.4 by Steve Snake, man I love playing Sega CD games on that thing (32x aint so bad either.).. it's almost flawless, I swear it. The only flaw is, "Save States are not yet supported for SegaCD/MegaCD." I suppose ya can't have everything

Ok, I'm logging out.. I wanna watch "Mad TV", that show is hilarious at times!

    Later

EDIT: Thanks SegNin.. I guess I was typing while you posted. I'll have to try out that memory card manager since I'll be trying out a few different PSX emulators.. it's good to know that ePSXe uses the same format as SSSPSX, should be pretty simple since I wouldnt have to convert all my cards if I used ePSXe. I can't answer you on the front-end question because I havent used them much myself, maybe Zorlon can help answer that better.
