So do I. I love Blind Guardian. I own 2 of their albums. Nightfall In Middle Earth is simply amazing. Elvenking is another badass band. Primal Fear's early stuff is good. Dragonforce is good... etc...

My buddy is a goddamn Megadeth junkie. I've been drinking with him for about 2 years now. Nowadays when we drink, it's usually at his house and he always blasts up Megadeth. Be it a song, a music video, or a bootleg concert that he spent weeks downloading using his 56k modem... trust me, it's NOT a seldom listen. Even 2 years ago when we got hammered we still somehow ended up in Best Buy with him blasting up Megadeth on the computers. That's the only negative aspect about drinking with him.

You seem to be like one of those people who think open-minded means it's okay to take the cock up the ass every now and then. Or like believing that animals can have normal love relationships with humans so bestiality is ok (yea some sick zoophilia shit I read online). No my friend. Being open-minded means giving music an equal chance which is what I do. I don't force myself to like it. I only have a bias towards it after listening to it.

You even agreed with me that death metal has become a pretty generic genre so don't be a hypocrite. Those 4 or 5 bands I didn't like eh? Well what about those 10+ bands I do like?

I'm going through my music library to list every single death metal band I can find and all of these bands are bands I enjoy. Be it they were death metal, old school death metal, melodic death metal, doom/death etc. If they were death metal at one point or another, I'm listing them:

Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Anal Vomit, Apokalyptic Raids, Atheist, Autopsy, Babylon Sad (ever hear of 'em eh? I own their only fucking album. Yet I'm a closed minded satanist), Black Forest, Blasphemy, Burning Witch, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Celtic Frost, Cynic, Death, Deathstrike, Deicide, Dream Death, Electrocution, Fear Factory, Gorguts, Hellhammer (the Apocalyptic Raids EP is pure fucking old school death metal), Hierophant, In Battle, Master, Massacre, Messiah, Morbid Angel, Necro Schizma, Necrophagia, Obituary, Pungent Stench, Sarcofago, Sepultura, Sextrash, Sickening Gore, Slaughter, Warhammer, and Winter.

I guess I'm still closed minded because I don't fancy Necrophagist eh?
Calm the fuck down and stop acting like you're getting drilled in the ass, I haven't said anything for you to be so anal. I never said that about death metal, I just said that many bands are recylcing the same old stuff that other bands were doing 10 years ago, but I still see a lot of more innovation than in a genre like black metal. I don't fancy Necrophagist all that much anymore either, so relax. I'm not asking you to prove that you have listened to certain bands or not, seriously I have better things to discuss on this thread.

W/e this childish argument is going nowhere, so lets drop this subject now.

Quiet you. Frankly I don't understand why there's such bad energy amongst metal subgenres... like most DM kids hate black metal and vice versa, and anyone who listens to either of them usually dislikes power metal. I mean it's all metal, we all listen to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. ... I think we should just keep these feelings of disdain towards the bands that exploit the music to make money, rather than bands that take a different approach at metal(or music in general, for that matter).

Anyway, I just bought myself a used BC Rich NJ Ironbird guitar for $150! Floyd Rose bridge and everything. It usually sells for 400-500$ but I acquired it used in good condition. Joy, I've wanted an Ironbird for the longest time. Paid $10 for shipping but I might throw in a bit more for the 2-day shipping thing. Thank god for college financial aid refunds.

Edit: Decapitated's new album has been leaked! I hope it's not disappointing as that sample FS posted... Grabbing it right now. I also just got all of Skyforger's albums, I had no idea I didn't have any on my comp. Anyone know the band Nebelhorn? 1-man viking metal band from Germany, I'm sure Howie's heard of them. His voice sounds just like Tom Angelripper, lol.

Edit2: Hmm... well maybe I was being too biased about Decapitated's new album. It's different... better than the Negation, at least it's way more technical, but Sauron was much better on vocals... Yeah, Covan is a little too comprehensible for a band like Decapitated, he should stick the microphone a little more deeper into his stomach. The vibe is very different, you would never tell it's the very same band. It has weird grooves here and there, weird ass time signatures, not as annoying as Meshuggah though. Maybe I'll get to like it if I can block out Covan's vocals for a while. Oh yeah, and those goddamned promo overdubs! I want to see more Winds of Creation and Nihility-style madness, though.

Edit3: Btw, if any of you like grindcore or just pure raw aggressive music in general, free of a "____ metal" label, check out Rotten Sound. Br00t3l as fuck, from Finland. Finland also has a cool DM band called Sotajumala, who FS told me about long ago, very war-like and aggressive. Those are the only two non-power or black(/viking) metal bands from Finland that I know. Oh yeah, and Stone, which are like Destruction but I need to get into them more.

I personally don't like CC much. They try to be gross, violent, and fast, but compared to most goregrind bands and that type of death metal bands, they're timid and nice But I do like their 2004 album (forget the name), but the older stuff doesn't get me going.
And most peoples' idea of death metal is CC-type too. That's why I didn't get into DM for a really long time (Lamb of God and Behemoth got me into it ).

Yes because Lamb of God is death metal...

Well, obviously you dislike them, and I like them. They aren't really death metal either, I'm not saying that. Even though they aren't true death metal, they got me into the entire genre, if you can understand that. They lead to me getting into heavier bands.

I started listening to Bloodbath. These guys are mighty! Sounds exactly like old Entombed, except for way heavier and faster!

hmm, I do suppose its a band that you'll never leave behind . I think I still feel the same way about Opeth. I have never tired of that music. Though I think I still should broaden my horizons.

Well, Opeth is, whether people agree or disagree, one of the the most genius bands today. You should open your horizons more, but considering the amount of music they have, they'll take a looong time to get bored of

Jumping in on my own here.

Just got an advance copy of the new In Flames album, Come Clarity (friend of a friend at the record co.), and hot damn. Great stuff, comes out swinging, grabs you by the balls, shakes you around a bit, and then lets you down nice and easy. Literally.

So, you like it or no? I can't tell by that line.

    haha yes, i love it.

also, i picked up the latest Children Of Bodom (Are You Dead Yet), and I wasn't really impressed. definately better than Follow The Reaper, but compared to say Hate Crew Deathroll or even Hatebreeder, it's surprisingly...meh.

I share this thing with Lamb of God... the first big step away from nu metal I took was power or heavy metal like Manowar, Helloween, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, etc. then later on I got into Lamb of God and early Sepultura and Megadeth. Lamb of God didn't change me a lot, but they sure fueled my desire to find heavier stuff. So then a friend at school got me into Marduk, Limbonic Art, In Flames(some other guy), and soon after: Decapitated and Deicide. That was it for me, that's the beginning of my obsession with death metal, that was about 3 years ago. I still have a lot of catching up to do, I mean I don't even listen to Hellhammer yet, which I'm sure Tancred will want to castrate me for.

Bloodbath are cool, a little too simplistic compared to modern DM, but they still kick ass. I wish people would associate "Swedish death metal" with bands like Bloodbath, Entombed, Amon Amarth and Dismember rather than Soilwork and Dark Tranquillity(which I like, but I don't think deserve as much reputation as a DM band).

Edit: Hmm... I'm rather ashamed that I never got into Opeth. I don't know, most of the songs I've listened to I didn't like, but some others were very nice. Maybe I'll give them some more listens once my iPod arrives. I just find a 13-minute song from a band I don't really like a little too time consuming.

Zomg... better than FtR? I would have to disagree, but I'm not really a Bodom fan so I don't mind. I could go see them this Friday with Amon Amarth but I can't go, work + a final exam. (
