:/ I think it's because you're too accustomed to shiny, crystal-clear production. Few bands make covers of the originals sound better, but CoF is definately not one of them.

In Flames' new effort no doubt sucks bad, I had a few listens and it was just as repulsive as STYE, but the riffs were of better quality to a slight extent, but the commerciality is still there. Damn that really sucks, I'm pretty much losing all respect I once had for the band.

Well, when it comes to Sweden, there's still Amon Amarth, Bloodbath, Dismember, Dark Tranquillity, Sacrilege, and a few more pumping out some decent (melodic, to an extent) death metal.

I've been meaning to ask this for some time: what are the biggest most popular death metal bands that hail from Europe? Only Vader, Behemoth, Entombed and Dismember come to mind but I know there are some bigger acts, I'm just not thinking hard enough. Like I know Aborted and Necrophagist and stuff are getting more popular, but I mean DM bands that've been around for a long time that still kick ass like Vader.

Haven't heard the whole of "10 Steps to Hell" so I'm not making any comments on that song. But Grimfist are an excellent band, their first album was great. I loved A World of Wrath of their first album

Fleshcrawl from Germany were formed in 1987 and they still kickass, not sure if they are popular are not They are loads more kickass DM bands that formed ages ago but they don't get the recognition they deserve. People could listen to Trauma (formed in 1986) instead of just Vader or Behemoth

Yeah I was just wondering what the most popular bands were, apart from Vader, Bolt Thrower, ND, Entombed, etc.

Hmm I had a pretty cool night tonight, except for the fact some bastard egged me on the way home

Went up to the giffard for the fortnightly death metal night up the stairs, but this night they had 3 local bands playing upstairs, really fun, even when the singer of the band does a kick motion and his shoe flies off and hits the guitarist in the head (not hard though ) but yeah, really fun

Sounded like a br00t3l show. What were the bands? Maybe at least one of us have heard of them. Local doesn't mean that they're not recognized from abroad.

I noticed you listen to Prong on your Last.FM page. How are they? I might be seeing them with Overkill in NYC early next year, you going to that thrashtastic show?

I can't remember the name of one of them (for some bizarre reason they just did their bit and didn't promote themselves too much ) The other two were called Hellfire and Funeral Throne, I think this was set up just to try and get them a bit of footing as they might have been starting off, still it was a nice atmosphere, the vocalist from Hellfire came up and did lyrics with the band I didn't catch the name of.

OMG A CHANCE TO PUBLICLY INSULT TOMMY VICTOR! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR YEARS!!!
I also found out a couple of days ago that Tommy Victor is on MySpace and I plan to write a lengthy and insulting message to him.

Here is the story of Prong. Prong was formed in the mid-80's as a crossover/thrash band very similar to the likes of D.R.I and Discharge, meaning most songs were under 2 minutes long and were fast, unmemorable, but still fun to listen to. Thats how their first 2 releases were. Then came their best album in 1990. Beg To Differ. Production improved by a lot and the band lost their punk touch and just thrashed and thrashed. Mid-paced mostly but still sounded fucking great. In 1991 Prove You Wrong came out. This was more half-thrash/groove influenced and had some slight industrial touches but still kicked ass. Even though I'm not really a fan of either genres. The album sounded quite similar to White Zombie's kickass La Sexorcisto - Devil Music Vol.1.

Then in 1994 came the big change known as Cleansing. It took me a very long to get into it. The industrial influence was much larger. The vocals had tons of effects and so did the guitars. The thrash was almost completely gone and you were left with uber downtuned groove riffs. Yet, I still enjoy the album. Nowhere near as much as their older works but still a nice release.

Rude Awakening is released in 1996 as a total industrial piece of shit. Maybe like 2 good songs that are funky but the rest is total junk. Sounds like fucking Korn + random noise. The band broke up after it. They re-united in 2002 making a live album then in 2003 they released Scorpio Rising. Their newest effort. COMPLETE UTTER SHIT! Prong are proud that bands like Static-X and Korn mention them as their influence and now they continue playing their nu-metal style with like fucking drop B downtuned guitars. I downloaded the live album as well. It sucks because their uber downtuned guitars just dont fit their old school songs that they still play live sometimes.

    Prong went from:
All right > Awesome! > Good > WTF! > DIE TOMMY VICTOR YOU SELLOUT FAG!

    [/end rant]

Wow, ok so now I know they're not a band to look forward too... and an excuse to be late to the Overkill show, if I decide to go.

Sad thing is I own most of their releases. I own Forced Fed on CD and on vinyl. Wow. Looking at the vinyl and seeing Tommy Victor with long hair and wearing a leather jacket. Completely different than he is now. Short hair with poseur tattoo's all over him. I own Beg To Differ, Prove You Wrong, Whose Fist Is It Anyway? EP, Cleansing, and Rude Awakening. They had a DVD released recently that has about 4 of their shows. I wanna get it. I dont know why. The live album was teh ghey. I just have a sudden urge of getting this...

    Holy fucking shit!!!

" The concert agency representing Celtic Frost, Twisted Talent ([email protected]), has confirmed that Celtic Frost are now officially scheduled to play the August 4, 2006, headliner slot at the prestigious Wacken Open Air in Germany, the world's largest heavy rock open air festival (http://www.wacken.com).

Twisted Talent are currently in the process of finalizing further international festival appearances by Celtic Frost in 2006 as well as extensive worldwide tour dates to follow the release of the group's long-awaited "Monotheist" album in early 2006.

Further exclusive news updates on Celtic Frost will be posted on this website shortly."

Well, I'm not too up-to-speed on ancient underground metal like Celtic Frost, Hellhammer, or Mercyful Fate and stuff, but I sure-as-fuck have to go see Wacken next summer. Not to see any particular band, just for the adventerous part of it, but of course I'd probably at least 10 bands that I like play live. Unlike Ozzfest...
