Fuck yeah, Nile is insane. I've been a fan for about a year, it all started with In Their Darkened Shrines. Still one of my favourite dm albums ever. And the new album is just as awesome IMO.

I'll take your opinion and get some of The Crown. Recommend me... let's say three songs first

In Their Darkened motherfuckin' Shrines is the most brilliant intelligent piece of modern DM I have ever heard apart from "Planisphaerium". I'd give you some rep but I'm not sure if you want just bad rep or something. Karl Sanders is one genius musician... the songs have melody but absolutely no brutality is lost... Their new album is fucking ace and it deserves more listens from me. Have you heard the production on AOTW? It's world class... but it doesn't make it sound like a squeaky pile of commercial garbage. Their music still has a HUMONGOUS vibe("feel") even with sterile clean production. Take that, Darkthrone!

Can't wait to see them next February... with Soilent Gren, Hipocrisy, and Decapitated again. That'll be Decap's "Organic Hallucinosis" US tour... I'll get to see Sodom and Finntroll before that though, so that's pretty rad. I *could* catch Yngwie Malmsteen next month... but I think he's a cunt and doesn't deserve my money. I'm hoping to see Amon Amarth on Dec. 16th but I'll have to sit through Trivium and some other half-assed band. CoB are mainstaging so that'll be fun.

They are ok, but not my style because I've never liked the metal that the singing is slow and deep. I like scratchy and quick, and have more use of the bass guitar.

    'Take that Darkthrone'

I'm not interested in Yngwie Malmsteen rwally. I've never heard a song even though I've heard how good he is. I've heard the dudes from Dragonforce can play better though
Do you like him? If you do, reco me two songs that you think I'd like, because from what I've read his style doesn't appeal to me.

Huh? Listen to Decapitated's first album... or Cannibal Corpse, Decrepit Birth, or Deicide. Deep gutteral vox with lyrics spewed out fast as hell. Or better yet: Morbid Angel's "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh", the lyrics for every song are almost a page! So god-damned fast.

I think you might like Dew-Scented, Vivi. That was one of the bands that opened. A bit like The Crown but more on the thrash side.

Yngwie is a genius guitarist, but he makes unbearably dull music. Sure those classical Vivaldi, Bach, and other composer's songs played on electric guitar sound cool and hard as fuck but I just can't stand minutes of pure shredding straight. He pretty much invented the "neoclassical" rock/metal thing, but god damn what a cunt. He really is an arrogant asshole, and the music is 95% about showing off not actually playing a decent memorable song(most of the world's best guitarists suffer from the same problem). Guys like Quorthon(Bathory) weren't anything too special on guitar, but they crafted some of the greatest music ever. Anyone can mindlessly learn classical songs and scales and play them, but it takes real talent to sit down and write something that is completely your own.

This is partly the reason why I got tired of Children of Bodom really quickly. I give Laiho credit tho: he's Finnish, he's hot(yes, I have no qualms about saying that a guy is hot), and he loves the 80's metal but he's not an asshole about his skill. Bodom look like down to earth people, I just don't like their style of "party metal", maybe because of my personality... I guess I'm a little too serious for my own good, that might be the reason why I don't enjoy power metal as much as I used to. However bands like Manowar and Blind Guardian still kick my ass every time.

The only shredder-type solo band I care for is Joe Satriani. He can shred but that's not all he does, the music is atmospheric kind of, not my kind of thing but I give him credit for his writing ability apart from his skill.

In fact the reason why whammy bar shit became so popular in extreme metal was because the bands couldn't play as good solos as Yngwie and others like Jason Becker so they had to disguise their solos with whammy bar stuff. This is the reason why Kerry King(Slayer) only lasted for 2 weeks with Megadeth... too much whammy crap! However that doesn't mean all whammy shredders are sucky and trying to sound better with it. Look at Dimebag Darell, that dude was fucking ace.

Trey Azagthoth and Steve Vai have styles of their own and they use whammy shit just to expand their creativity(at first, Trey's early solos were the typical early death metal partly-atonal shredding but later on he got much better, like on the last 4 Morbid Angel albums, especially "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh" and "Gateways to Annhialation". He just creates these incredibly surreal sounds that you would never think a guitar could do. The beggining of "Nothing is Not" and "Invocation to a Continual One" are prime examples, but so are all of the other solos on those 2 albums. Trey also does a lot of oldschool rock/bluesy licks in his solos, so some actually have a very old-fashioned solo feel to them, but he usually makes these typical licks only a small part of his solos.

Has anyone checked out Karl Sander's(Nile) "Saurian Meditation"? Wow... the music really takes you somewhere else. I wish I had some mind altering substances because you can SO EASILY space out to that. Brilliant and meditative. It's not metal at all btw, but it's got the Egyptian/middle Eastern Nile vibe.

Yes, I love that album. it surprised me of how awesome it actually was. Karl Sanders is the fucking man these days. He dominates in the music world.
And thanks for all that info about Yngweenie. I'll stay with Dragonforce to satisfy my shredding needs

Yep, it was the first Dimmu song I heard, and it's what got me hooked into them, for awhile anyway. I haven't heard them for months. But that song is awesome imo.

No, another user just said that I should make a gay guild, so I did it. I always make threads that people joke about me making, just for the shock factor There's an actual gay person in the guild though He's... emo

Sounds like you had a blast, Soeru. I hope I'd be able to reach a show of one of my favourite bands some day.
I was just about to ask you if you heard Karl Sander's awesome solo album. Good thing I decided to read the rest of that post.

If you like that kind of music, there's a strong probability you'll like Kayo Dot and Isis. Check them out.

And just for the record, how the fuck do you pronounce Malmsteen's first name?

I've seen it, and the only reason I kinda like it is because of Abbath. Apart from Abbath, it's just another boring Gothic Symphonic Metal-song.
